Next Season will see our first sub-10k attendance for Championship Football
And I can't help but feel it could have been prevented.
I'm absolutely lost for words tonight, like most Preston fans. That "joke of a club with the tower" have managed to get promoted to the promised land, and we're stuck for our eleventh season in the Championship. Burnley doing it was bad enough, they had a bit of funding buying Eagles; they had fuck all that lot who did it today, they bought Charlie Adam (WELL FUCKING DONE IRVINE) and they've got a manager who's passion and drive has seen them over the finish line. The rest, is now sadly history.
So where does our club go from here? It won't be business as usual next season as a mixture of apathy and "can't be arsed with it anymore" sinks in, a loyal fan base of around 8,000 will attend every home game with around 4,500 season tickets, if we're lucky. We're yet to break the 2k season ticket barrier from what I've heard and with the massive cock-up about the mis-communication regarding season tickets it's going to be a push to get the neccessery amount of season ticket holders to keep us fully functional through the summer months.
Looking at the wider picture, them going up isn't the initial damage, it's the final straw for some. The club has been rotting slowly since Simpson took charge, but Irvine has ripped this club of its soul. Players such as Neill Collins have brought shame to this once proud club and put it's supporters through misery whilst still raking in the same amount in a fortnight as most of us earn in a year. Fans starting to disappear, slowly but surely it's happened over the past 24 months and retail sales apparently down also. This final straw for a lot of people is going to hit the club hard, the everyday fan may sit down tonight and think "can that £400 for a season ticket be spent elsewhere in a way that is going to be better for me, for my family, for my life?"
I have, and I honestly have no idea how many games I'll be attending next season at present. I love my club to pieces, but something has got to change. We're fucked at the minute, well and truly fucked.
