Bollox. Saturdays are not what makes football.

As you pointed out yourself, if it's a success then it means more people are watching PNE. Isn't that what a football club is all about?

If fridays bring in bigger crowds, then PNE should move with the times and have more games on a friday.

Fair enough. Count me out though.

I like my saturday afternoon football and wouldn't want to see every game moved. However, I don't think that this is what is being proposed. A few friday night games would be a good idea and would be part of a good friday night out.

New ideas, new marketing, new ways to draw in supporters and build the atmosphere - yes please. Give it a try.

This would mean I can play saturday football which would be a silver lining, but really I want pne to be saturday 3pm as it always has been.

Preston has a massive population of lads 18-40 who play football on a Saturday. I think, in consultation with away clubs, this could work.

Why not trial it with one of the fiver games?

I play Saturday football nowadays, and attend some midweek games to keep my PNE fix sharp. The odd Friday night game would see me turn up. I for one don't care who the opposition

Throwing in a trial price as low as that as well though is a double whammy for season ticket holders, so not something I think is necessary.

I don't think it's too much to ask for the odd Saturday 3pm to switch to Friday as there are always some games across the season that switch for TV or are postponed due to cup games/weather, which end up being midweek anyway - i.e. allowing those travelling from further afield to plan according with their work commitments.

I've voted no on this one - I live over 100 miles away from Deepdale and whilst I can make it back over there after work for evening games, I certainly wouldn't be able to do that every fortnight or so.

It's good that we are considering alternatives but I'm not convinced that this would bring in enough extra attendees to not only make up for the regulars who wouldn't attend but also make it worthwhile.

PSG have been collecting views from our members to feed back to the club, if anyone would like to add to this, please email me at john@psg.me.uk

FWIW the feedback we have had so far its about 90% against, 10% in Favour.

We will have a newsletter out soon which will have details of what people have said.🙂

I personally feel that it is excellent that the club are consulting the supporters on this issue, and hope they continue to do so in the future 🙂

Don't like the idea of Friday night football at all, Football is reserved for Saturday and is a great excuse for drinking sessions before and after the game. If there was no football on Saturday I would be forced to do boring womany things with the missus.

Also, as with Retfordpete I live a fair way from Deepdale and 'travelling' through Brum and up the m6 on a friday is an absolute 'mare and wouldn't be worth it.

I actually think that it's quite a progressive attitude and one which could work well.

This is obviously something Maurice Lindsay has brought to the table given his experience with of attendances at Rugby league matches over the years between Friday nights, Saturday's and Sunday. I would be assuming that given this news todya that Friday night games must work well for Wigan RLFC and other teams in terms of getting more people on.

The only thing that I can see standing in the way of this is the age old resistance to change that as illustrated by a few opinions already seen on this thread. Rather than looking at potenital positives, people are automatically against the idea becuase of this inherent attitude and culture that football should be played on a Saturday at 3pm.

For me, I am in support of this anything that shows this club is being proactive after years of stagnation.

Whilst I don't think that PSG reflect the opinions of all Preston North End fans, I would guess that a good number of the 90% 'against' were also the same people who were quick to criticise the clubs PR stance under the previous regime.

The one criticism I would have to the communication of this potential idea is the suggestion that it's to accommodate Premier League football when it should be to facilitate the lifestyles of fans in 2010.

I'm not too fussed about this, as long as it isn't for all 18 home Saturday fixtures.

Two or three times a season, and I think it would possibly work if it's Cat C games or similar.

Progressive thinking, about time, and I like it!

This bit seems like a bit of needless PSG slagging off to me.

I'm a relitivley new PSG member, and I recieved a email asking me what my view was, as the club would like to know. It would make it near on impossible for me to make some games due to family reasons, and having already bought a season ticket I would be very upset. However I have no problem with the club asking the question, and glad they have consulted the fans on the subject.

I don't actually know many of the other PSG members, but I would guess that since a quite a few of them attend every match, home and away, these would be the type of supporter the club wish to consult.

Completely agree with all of this.

People fear change, even if the change is for the better.

Fuck me give them a break. At least they are trying to do things differently. Friday night home games are clearly not supported going off the reaction on here. To me I couldn't care tbh. I can think of many reasons for and against it but going off the reaction of most on here it wouldn't result in bigger gates so is pointless.

Its too late now for this season but I still maintain the way to go is with much cheaper season tickets resulting in bigger crowds. I am sure that at £200-£250 a head right around the ground and a big PR excersize would result in 13-15k season ticket holders. If we had almost double the number of season ticket holders and a better atmosphere I think the number of people we could entice to buy matchday tickets would increase. Once you get into the habbit of going you tend to continue going.

Nowhere has it said this is going to implimented with immediate effect. I would imagine as muted already by a few that we may see a handful of games used as a trial with a view to this being more a long term initiative from 2011/2012 season.

I would rather see the likes of Preston versus Swansea, Coventry, Doncaster, QPR, Watford, Barnsley, Sheff Utd etc played on a Friday night if it provides a model by which over the course of the season, the extra 1,000 - 2,000 people over the collective (select) number of matches pays the wages of three/four players, let alone adds to atmopshere and posisbly impacts positively on results.

I have seen numerous discussions on here in the past debating how to increase attendances, improve atmosphere - often lead or underpinned by PSG. This seems a more than viable solution yet they are already making 'anti' noises towards it without any known facts or proposals of how it is is planned to be introduced. So Chip Barm, it is not "needless PSG slagging off", more my opinion.

What's more, PSG emailing members is hardly the best way to go about compiling valid data on which to base their conclusions and statements!

I cannot believe that in 2010, people are so rigid in their outlooks and culture that they can only watch football at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon!

To reiterate my point, this board got overrun with anti Derek Shaw/PR/club progression discussion, often lead by PSG and its members that it became monotonous. I therefore find it ironic and borderline hypercritical, that when we finally begin to see evidence from within the club of ideas that are pretty much revolutionary to what we have becme accustomed to that they are against it.

NS, as a ST holder who works different shifts each week and not finding out until 7 days at the earliest beforehand, it knackers up any planning that i might have whereas i always know that im free from the restraints of work come 1500 on Saturdays.

Its difficult enough trying to sort out Tuesday home matches that clash with work let alone a Friday when people who don't like football use their Friday night off, if they have one, to go out on the lash.

Maybe im being selfish, who knows, but im sure that you can see my viewpoint.

Regards. 🙂

The only thing I say is that the biggest mistake you can make in business/marketing is assuming that your own personal thoughts, circumstances and behaviours are reflective of the mass market and an operation dealing with a potential customer base of 20,000 cannot tailor to individual demands.

Those against this proposal are so based on assumptions and I would advise embracing change rather than resisting it.
