Well, when I say Wednesday, I really should say 'Preston rejects XI'!

So it looks like Irvine is determined to snap up as many Preston players as possible, but I guess that was to be expected.

Ignoring Nolan as it doesn't look like he's coming back, we've already got Sedgwick and Mellor with the possibility of Mawene joining too.

What are the general thoughts on the players who have joined us? I'm thinking Mellor could score about 15 goals in League One if he stays fit and Sedgwick is a bit old for the Championship, but could potentially do better in League One.

Also, how come it looks like you'll be letting Mawene go? He's only 30 and whenever I've seen him he's been excellent. Him and St. Ledger would be a great partnership.

Plus, what happened to St. Ledger? When a player goes on loan with a view to a full transfer it usually happens. What happened with Middlebrough? Or could they not afford him? Is he happy at Deepdale?

I really wanted Parkin to join, but no way could we pay a transfer fee in our current situation.

Surely you must be busting a gut to get Welbeck back on loan? He's surely a 20-goal Championship striker!?

I had some hope when we came back from 2-0 at your place last season. It was the first time in memory we'd actually shown some fight to come back from being 2 behind. Wasn't to be and all Wednesday fans know we completely deserved to go down last year.

Anyway, all the best for next season.

Sheffield North End

Mellor: Very poor finisher but gets into good positions. I reckon he will get around 15-20 goals in League 1.

Sedgwick: Very slow but works hard. Will graft for 90 mins but often theres no end product.

Mawene: Pre-injury, he was our best defender, and one of the best outside the Premiership. He was once invincible. He's now lost all his pace but he still has a good football brain. Should do a good job in League 1 (unless playing against raw pace).

Sedgwick is a grafter, should be good at that level, no pace though whatsoever. Mawene is a fantatsic player, probably the best centre half I have seen play for North End but he will be lucky to be fit for any more than about 25 games.

Mellor will score goals but i'm glad he has gone. Not good enough for the championship and has been living off scoring a couple of goals for Liverpool when he was younger. Has never looked fit to me either.

people have said mellor could score 20+ in this division for years. 15 seems more reasonable for L1, but I honestly think he'll struggle to get that. his ratio is decent but he doesnt play enough, adn thats nothing to do with fitness, its becasue if he isnt playing well and scoring, hes completly anonymous.

Sedge is solid and unspectacular, if he was a Central Midfielder he'd be regarded as a good player, but people want more from a winger. hes quite skillful, but is slow and runs himslef into trouble and his end product is a bit rubbish.

im hoping Mawene isnt going.

Interesting. Thanks for your insight.

Sounds like Mellor is a confidence player. It doesn't seem that any manager he's played under has had full confidence to play him on a large run of games.

I'm sure he'll get that at Hillsborough and could come back a better player for it.

I think Sedgwick might be a player that doesn't actually contribute much to the team apart from running a lot. We've seen that at Hillsborough before. It won't win the fans over fully.

Good stuff. Cheers.

Mawene - At his peak a few seasons ago before he got injured he was one of if not the best defender I've seen for PNE (I'm only 20 mind). Can't manage more than 20 odd games a season now so it's widely believed we offered him a pay cut that reflects this but he wasn't happy with that. Nobody at PNE would have a bad word to say about him tbh and he will go down as a modern PNE legend I would think. :youl:

Sedgwick - He's past it at Championship level but should be okay in League 1. He does more stepovers than Ronaldo and often beats the defender then beats himself multiple times. Will chip in with a fair few assists and will always give 100%. At his peak he was a very good player but the past season and a half he's just not been good enough for us and many people on here seem to have short memories.

Mellor - Such a promising player when he was a youngster but then he did his knees in I think and ended up at PNE. For years he never looked arsed and then the start of last season he actually started trying for a bit. Once every blue moon he looked like a world beater but more often than not spurned easy chance after easy chance. I think you could be right in saying he will get 15 goals in League 1 if he stays fit and stays in the starting XI but in all honesty I'm glad we're rid, albeit for a season. He's really fat btw.

Alan Irvine is your main problem I'm afraid. He is AWFUL in the transfer market, and wasted more money at PNE than any other boss.

Do you realise, most of the players he signed, or re-negotiated - on huge contracts - are now being isolated with the reserves, in the hope they will leave Deepdale.

Anyway, console yourself - at least he's got natural charisma, a proper managerial character eh?!

For his own good, the man should be placed in charge of a bakery in Cape Wrath.

Don't give him that much credit WJ9, they are playing training with the Youth Team!🙄

I think if you pull off the Mawene deal, he'll be the signing of the summer for you guys. Mellor should excel in a division with such poor defenders. I mean Parkin got a hat-trick V's Colchester, who are one of the top teams in that division! Sedgwick will work hard but no end product. Expect very few goals from him unless they take a deflection about 10 times that knocks the GK out and floats into the back of the net at 1MPH.

Nice one. That stamps home the horrors of the Irvine reign. I feel desperately sorry for the Wednesday fans, a beautiful club. It's like a Bentley being driven across a beach and in and out of the water, by an escaped lunatic.

Mellor: Quality centre forward, proven success at Championship level. Should bag 25-30 goals in League 1 if he stays fit.

Sedgwick: Gives 100% every game and should be more end product against inferior opposition. A good signing.

Mawene: Quality defender and a PNE legend. Sad to see him go but no doubt he will be one of the best centre halves in League 1. A superb signing for SWFC.

Not being funny but you said previous managers hadn't played Mellor on a large run of games and he'll get that at hillsborough? One of those mangers was irvine don't forget so how is that going to change now?
Anyhow good luck to you, sedgy will be a good grafter for you, I also hope Mawene doesn't go to you and you are welcome to Mellor

Sedgwick:The type of player every manager loves.Always gives 100% and a steady 7 out of 10.However its debatable if his 100% and 7/10 is enough 🙂.

Mellor:'Potential' is a word that comes to mind. 'Unfullfilled' is another.Mellor still lives off 2 goals he scored for Liverpool and the shed load he scored in the reserves.Wont be a consistant goal scorer for you ie will get 2 in one game then go 10 without scoring.I predict he wont score more than 12/13 league goals for you, this season. Not a good signing, but thanks for taking him off our hands.

Youl:Hope to God he stays with us.

Mellor : I cant believe fellow north enders think he will score 15-20 goals. He gives up and gets feed up of not getting the ball where he wants it. He will come deep to get it, but rarely shows the ability to break into the box and score. He does improve with confidence, but I really dont see him being a great hit, certainly not 20 goals

Sedge : We doesnt have huge amounts of skills, but he will track back all day and will but a cross in or 2 if he gets the space. I think more likely though you will get impatient with his ability to run into trouble. Oh and dont get excited when he gets the ball and makes a run on goal, he wont score.

Youl: Loads of expereince, reads the game well, great height, potential to score a couple of goals from corners. He has lost a yard, but his vision makes up for a lot. If he can get his fitness back and a run of games he will be a solid defender for us or you. A few personal problems over the last few years havnt helped him.

.

Are you trying to put me into hospital, I have just laughed so much I have given myself a hernia😀

You really are a fucking idiot. 🙄

FAO the Owls fan: Sedgwick is one of the worst footballers I've ever seen. Offers absolutely nothing and you're welcome to him, tho he's League 2 at best and it's a miracle how he earns a living as a pro footballer. Utterly shite.😎

Mellor has a terrible attitude, is a cripple and can't get over the fact he doesn't play fro Liverpoo any more

And you can't have Youl.

Apart from that, good luck next season - you're going to need it. :gentry:
