The Best PNE Goal Ever - Vote Now!

The Best PNE Goal Ever - Vote Now!

It's virtually imposible to say what the best goal is as there are so many different categories. You can't compare the strike from distance (eg Gregan, Macken, Jeff W etc) with the tap in from 1 yard that wins a play off semi final. Here are some category suggestions together with my favourites:-

1. Shots from distance - Macken v Citeh, Mooney with the headband
2. Individual efforts - Nugent (v Palace away, v Milwall away), Fuller v Leciester, Agyemang v WBA
3. Team goals - Nugent v Burnley (the free kick chip up)
4. Important goals - Rankine v Brum, Wallace v Brum, Sav at Orient.

Its the only goal that as nearly reduced me to tears. I never ever get tired of whatching my video of that night and i put the music to it to out play the commentary that never gave justice to this beautiful moment in my life

Its the greatest goal for me because you had time to take it all in as Ricardo played it out in front of us so we had chance to take in his artistery, his strength, his speed, his class and most of all the composure when afetr running from the half way line he simple passed the ball into the leicester net. In my eyes there will never be a goal like this or a player like RiCARDO Fuller in my liftime>

Thank you willy boo.

Obviously not the most spectacular, but for what it meant it has to be Rankine v Birmingham City in the play-offs 2001.

Thank you for some great contributions so far - there are definitely some early favourites cropping up in our inbox, on Facebook and on this thread, so we'll use all the suggestions via all the outlets to form the shortlist in due course.

Please keep them coming (we've just got to be careful not to spend all day watching all the great Youtube videos..!).

From my dim and distant youth, remember John McMahon (caveman right-back) sticking a snotter into the top corner from 25 yards against Bradford - anyone else remember that or my dementia kicking in?
Warren Joyce against Brentford in that 5-3 win on the plastic, superb flowing move.
Neil Trebble running on to Ryan Kidd's through ball away at Fulham in injury time and finishing remarkably well for someone who for the rest of the time was awful.

Appleton v Fulham, element of luck about it, but given their form etc

Andy Smith against Bamber Bridge

David Nugents goals against Palace and Burnley both away

Jon Macken and Gregan from the half way line

I forgot to add Parkin v Brum from Wallace cross

Thanks to all, these are great memories about some of the great goals I had forgotten

Goals that I have witnessed live rather than just seen film of:

1. Derek Temple vs Nottingham Forest FA Cup 3rd Round 1969 - picked up the ball inside the PNE half, accelerated through the opposition defence, reached the edge of the penalty area and shot low just inside the goalkeeper's right-hand post. Utterly sublime.

2. Alex Dawson vs Bolton FA Cup 3rd Round 1964 - second goal. Leapt above three defenders and then put in a bullet header from about ten yards that was so hard their goalkeeper literally did not have time to react before the ball hit the net behind him. The Black Prince at his absolute best.

3. Ricki Thomson vs QPR 80s. Cut in from the right and kept possession as he ran right across the front of the opppostion penalty area before swivelling and chipping the ball left-footed back across the face of goal and just inside the opposite angle of bar and post. A superb talent whose career was sadly cut short by injury.

Andy Smith against Bamber Bridge

Grrrr I missed that bloody goal because that bloody John Roper tapped me on the shoulder and I turned around, I still think its a myth and it never happened 😉

I think its difficult to pick the best goal, but in terms of celebrating a goal, nothing will ever compete with Rankines against Brum. Although Wallace's goal at Brum came bloody close!
