Letter to Scunthorpe

Letter to Scunthorpe

I have written a letter to Scunthorpe United about my feelings on yesterdays postponement. Below is the letter I have sent but I am also considering sending a similar letter to the league. This does just not add up at all. I am convinced the game was prevented from going ahead for Scunthorpes own benefit. Anyone else get that feeling? If we bombard the FA with letters similar to mine I think there is definetly grounds for an investigation.

To Whom It May Concern, my name is ************ and I have just arrived home from Halifax in West Yorkshire. Halifax was not the original destination that me and my friends were heading to but Halifax is the motorway junction we were at when we found out the game between Scunthorpe United and Preston North End was postponed. I find it hard to understand that in the modern world a football club cannot prevent a pitch from freezing over. I find especially hard to understand that when you look roughly 40 miles south east of Scunthorpe in Rotherham their game with Stockport went ahead no problem. It wasn’t just Rotherham that went ahead in that area but also 30 miles down the road in Lincoln. Even the Northern Premier League game between North Ferriby and Halifax went ahead yet Scunthorpe of the N-Power Championship could not prevent their pitch from freezing. It has come up on a Preston fans forum that Scunthorpe United turned down the loan of gas burners as they would be too expensive to run whether this is just a rumour or is in fact true I do not know but taking into account the situation it seems very likely. When you look at the fact that Joe Murphy, Garry Thompson and Michael O’Connor were all out injured and Cliff Byrne and Rob Jones were touch and go up until kick off it starts to look that this could have been a well-executed plan by the club to prevent the game going ahead. I’m no grounds-man but even I could have guessed that putting water into a frozen pitch would only make it worse, this was confirmed by referee Darren Sheldrake when he was quoted as saying “to be fair to the club [Scunthorpe], they have tried to get some water on to soak it through, but that has probably made it worse”. There is something very peculiar about this whole situation but besides the conspiracy theories I am utterly disgusted about the fact the game didn’t go ahead due to the fact we travelled a long way before finding out. The club should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves and have lost a lot of credibility.

Is it just me but if you are 40 miles south east of Scunthorpe are you not in the North Sea

I had already got there when i heard it was off so went to tesco bought a crate and went and watched some pub footy game which ended 6-5 to the whites which i pretended was preston 🙂

more likely Skegness as the crow flies, however he perhaps could hsve said South South East. Though an examiner in a GCSE geography exam would mark him correct. It is slightly unreadable.

To be honest they could not help it let the match go ahead or have a PNE fan that could have fallen in or around the ground and broke a leg.

I think its a fair letter. The problem with PNE online is there is too many pricks who disagree with anything someone posts, whehter its a rumour or a letter. Some of you lot are proper nobs heads.

No logic in that reply whatever.

Why? Because I am not jumping on the lets get at Scunthorpe band wagon?

I call it as I see it. PNE fans criticising one club, but not a word against our own club who did precisely what the first club did, ie had to postpone a game due to frozen pitch.

If any letters need to be written to the authorities, I suggest we leave that to the referee.

Also this postponement in my opinion can only help North End, who by the time this game will be played may have a significantly stronger team if other players including the Blackburn guy who is injured may be available for the rescheduled game v Scunthorpe.

The phrase "making a mountain out of a molehill" springs to mind.
