Phil Brown - please do away with your 3-5-2 rubbish - fair play it earnt us draws over the last couple of weeks (but now we need wins so we must be more attacking!)

My shape would be - 4-1-3-2

Lonners

Mclaughlin Ledge Cort Jones

Ashbee

Eddie Johnson Barton Tracey

Ellington/Clarke Hume

Obviously - when we do not have the ball, tracey and johnson need to tuck right in and create two solid banks of 4, but when we win the ball, lets get the ball wide and get mclaughlin and jones bombing on!!

For me - 3-5-2 makes us two narrow in midfield - no width - hence no service into the front two!! Please Phil get rid now - and watch our fortunes change!!!!!

Obviously positions are interchangeable - ie if we are chasing the game, take ashby off, Move Jones into centre mid etc, or move eddie johnson through the middle as a striker Clarke off etc (mayor on as sub etc)

Surely - this shape would be alot more positive and ensure we look like winning games etc! we need wins!

Last night PNE were just not wide-enough..........the midfield was over-crowded.

We need width..............and someone who can get the ball over Higher than what happend in-the-main. Hulme was the main culprit in not getting it up in the Air.....

At the end of the day i'm sure brown knows what he is doing. The versatile 5-3-2- 3-5-2 formation makes sense considering we where leaking goals. By having 5 defenders on the pitch it has meant that we have conceded 1.33 goals a game, which isn't too bad. Bearing in mind the lack of fire power up front and and obvious flaws in midfield i can understand why he is doing it.
Hopefully though at home against City, we will adopt a more "score one more goal than you" strategy and play 4-4-2 or even 4-3-3.
I think Brown Phill is just trying to grind out result's (which he has been successful on in 2/3 games) with a poor squad.

We can talk forever about systems and tactics but let's be honest - we have been crap playing an expansive 4-4-2, useless playing a narrow 4-4-2, dire when playing a 4-5-1 and punchless when playing a 3-5-2.

Does the system matter as much as we want it to? Or are our players far worse than we want to admit and confidence levels utterly beyond the point of redemption?

We have the players to play a 4-3-3/4-5-1, that's what I would go for.

Lonnergan
Mcclaughlin ssl brown Jones
Ashbie
Barton coutts
Hume Treacy
Ellington/Johnson

Doesn't look like a bad side in all honesty.

Where has Coutts gone? Surely our best midfielder from what I have seen. Injured or just dropped?

Injured , I think, although I can't remember him getting a bad injury so hopefully he will be back soon, I hope so as like someone else has stated, he can pass to a team mate.
