I was nearly sick when Russell was subbed today instead of Barton. I've always liked the look of him but today he was one of the weakest players out there. Never marks up, slow to react, can't play simple balls, barged off the ball too easy etc. Not good enough by far. Should have took him and Clarke off for Mayor and Parry sooner and gone 4-4-2 then.

His role was critical as the link man to provide for the forwards. He was caught on the ball far too often and pushed out of the game too easily. He was casual and not aggressive enough for me. I thought by contrast that Russell did ok and would have been disappointed to be subbed.
A lot is said about formations but to me the failure today was very simple. We didn't take the easy chances we had when we were on top in the first half combined with poor mistakes in conceding goals.

agree revels, russell has been doing better... best of a bad bunch really
Iv'e been saying for ages now that Barton is weak, he needs beefing up and hardening up, he's too soft, plus I think his confidence is zilch at the moment, I would have subbed him instead of Russell, at least he can get a foot in when its needed.
I returned from holiday in September expecting to see good things from Adam especially with reports of Liverpool & Bolton sniffing round.
He has done absolutly nothing to show that class in any game I have seen since.
Premier league My a**e would be luck to get in a 2nd div team.

Barton's recent performances have been dreadful. He seems to lack pace, strength and worst of all heart. Things are so bad I may even go a far to say as Carter would probably do better!
Absolutely agree, but the damage had already been done by the time that the substitutions had been made. Barton should have been taken off at half time

I didn't see the game but it's fair to say PNE aren't i the position they are because of Adam Barton. This is a young lad learning his trade and not being helped by the the so called experienced players around him.
Some of the early season publicity may have gone to his head and why shouldn't it? He was getting rave reviews and playing well. But as the team has declined, so has the lads confidence. PNE currently don't deserve any plaudits and frankly don't deserve much support, but the young lads do. They have been thrown in at the deep end this season and it really isn't their fault that the club has fallen apart at the seams.

The consistent throughout the past 2 seasons has been this. The senior pros at this club have an awful lot to answer for, stemming back from Irvines days.I didn't see the game but it's fair to say PNE aren't i the position they are because of Adam Barton.
