Adam Barton!!!

Adam Barton!!!

I suspect Adam Barton will 'do a Carroll' and beef up in a few years to become a top player.

That being said, like the majority here I think he's too lightweight for the role he's in and seems to go missing for long periods of the game. At the start of the season his main strengths seemed to be his footwork and his ability to keep hold of the ball when surrounded by the opposition, both of which seem to have deserted him.

Maybe all the early hype has got to him and he thinks he is better than he actually is.

He has loads of potential, but that's where it ends.

fookin appalling set of comments assassinating one of our young players who has obviously got talent....and all this in comparison to Russell, who is utter dog shite.

Barton did not have a good game I admit and he is certainly not strong enoigh but I bet he didnt give the ball away anywhere near as much as Russell.

It is hard to give the ball away when you are hiding. Russell had a decent game yesterday - tackling, trying to create and getting into the box. Barton effectively left us with a man short with his poor, poor performance. He was not the only one and I am not singling him out but he needs to be dropped to the reserves to try and rediscover his early form. I cannot believe our management team failed to notice.

This whole thread is very harsh on the lad. Lets be honest no one at the start of the season expected him to be a regular in the side. The very fact that he has become a regular is testament to his quality (and to a certain extent the weakness of our squad). He is suffering now because he made such a good start. People are expecting far too much of him. The same applies to Mayor. People underestimate how hard it is for young players to step up into a team playing badly week in week out. If our experienced pros can't perform why are we expecting Barton and Mayor to be able to save us. I can guarantee that if you slipped either or both Barton and Mayor into the QPR side (I'm not suggesting they would get in the first team but bear with me) they would both look like million pound players.

Maybe harsh, but if your a young lad, the minimum required is to be able to run around and put your foot in, im sorry but this lad thinks he's the real deal, strolling around like he has 600 games under his belt, with no affect on the match what so ever..

For someone to say he is not technically very good shows their absolute lack of insight into the game. Ok his performances have been off recently, but he will be an excellent player down the track.

His role was critical as the link man to provide for the forwards. He was caught on the ball far too often and pushed out of the game too easily. He was casual and not aggressive enough for me. I thought by contrast that Russell did ok and would have been disappointed to be subbed.

A lot is said about formations but to me the failure today was very simple. We didn't take the easy chances we had when we were on top in the first half combined with poor mistakes in conceding goals.

Thats just about it basher 🙂

I think that Barton will over time become a good player, but at the moment should be withdrawn from the battle. He needs to bulk up & get more physical. For a tall lad he doesn't win as much in the air as he should, but he has a good touch and confidence. Whatever level you play you have to win the right to play football, he has to get much more physical. Similarly, Mayor has the potential to become a good player and needs to believe in himself more. Neither of these lads will develop in a relegation threatened, but next season is abig year for them both. If Coutts had stayed fit then Barton would have been a "bit player" this season

As many have mentioned, Barton does need to bulk up a bit. As do all these young players that are coming through, given time, it'll happen. The thing with Barton and Mayor I've noticed is that, when they don't have the ball, they don't have a clue what to do. Both of them are terrible off the ball. Once they've both worked on that, they could turn out good players. If they don't, they won't go anywhere in football.
