This last week or so has seen some very big decisions made at PNE, and I think they show a real commtiment to doing something about our undoubtedly perilous predicament. The appointment of Ridsdale divides opinion, and his record is mixed to say the least. As we wait for the next managerial appointment there are naturally further splits in thinking about what is going to happen at the football club.
For me there are a couple of knowns in all of this, the football club can not support Championship wages at League One level and the only way for Hemmings to physically get his money back in our current position is through corporation tax offset because few football clubs are valued at £20m+ let alone any league one clubs.
So something does have to change, either a ruthlessly effective cost cutting measure that sees Hemmings input reduced to nought and the club operating at a league one (maybe two) level, or we need to get promoted.
I might be alone in the belief that the appointment of Ridsdale suggests the latter, many have cited his records for cost cutting, but I wonder if it is actually his record for building clubs up to sell that interests Hemmings.
The natural management appointment would therefore seem to be someone with experience of promotions, strong motivation skills and a willingness to work similarly efficiently. That person may be Billy Davies, I do not know because he has shown an aptitude for this only to follow that up with a desire for inefficient wastage.
I think Hemmings will be aware of the power of the consumer, and the ability of real support to make a big difference to the feel of a business. My understanding is that it can work in racing and that in football it is inevitable that a feel good factor can get points.
Hence I see a good management appointment coming soon, good incentives for supporters and one or two signings in January. Most importantly now I feel the stage is set for some high profile bid rejections (whilesoever Coutts, Hume and Mellor are willing to do their bit for PNE).
As to the title, I think that one does not bear contemplating, exciting times lie ahead
(I still do not believe in sacking managers after 1 year or less - unless they are Ferguson who should never have been appointed given the non sacking belief)
