Firstly, I'm pleased we finally won a game on Saturday and GA/DU deserve credit for injecting some much needed common sense into team selection and tactics. It's a great win to build on although I stand by my comment that a hige slice of luck played its part and MK Dons should have got something from the game.

Nevertheless, I hope that if Graham and Dave are being considered (and given we didn't collapse embarrassingly on TV the other day, they do deserve to be) then I hope it is as manager and assistant rather than trying to establish an unorthodox management partnership. Long term, I don't see how 2 men running one club can work and I can't remember it ever being successful in the past without the role of manager and assistant being clearly defined.

I still think if Billy Davies is even contemplating a return we should already have offered terms and be ordering him a taxi, however, then if it must be an internal appointment, for me, it needs to be Grezza as manager with Unsworth as assistant (obviously with big input into first team affairs).

My theory and it is just a theory. If Davies is being considered for the job or is considering the job - what would the point be in bringing him in just before Christmas? This is bearing in mind that he lives in Glasgow and would have to sort out his management team at short notice to move in and prepare for the Carlisle match. Far better to let Graham and Dave continue to run things until next week or later. Just my theory or perhaps a pipe dream!

From Ridsdale
"The two lads in charge at the moment will be asked tomorrow if they want to throw their hats into the ring. If they do want to be considered they will be put on the list, and Saturday’s result will certainly help them.
“I think it’s highly likely that Graham and David will in charge for Boxing Day.
“You never know exactly what is going to happen, but I’d be extremely surprised if they weren’t.”

The more I think about it, the less I want Davies to come back. If he brings all his backroom staff with him, surely Unsworth, Alexander, Hoyland and Ramsdale will have to go to accomodate them. Then as soon as a better proposition comes, he buggers off and we're left with nothing.

It's a tough one though, because I'm unsure whether Grezzworth are ready yet. However, I disagree with Durutti, I think Unsworth should be manager with Alexander as his assistant.

I've also come to that conclusion this weekend.

Yup me to, initially I was just thinking bring Davies back at all costs, but the amount of change that would have to happen would be quite a lot. I notice Balderstone is actually still physio at Forest so only Ned and Darby to bring with him, but that automatically means no Unsworth and Alexander back to being an injured player.

So for me, Unsworth as manager and Alexander as assistant. Initially until the end of the season.

Like almost everyone else, I see the benefit of continuity - but like almost everybody else, last week I would have sacrificed all that to bring Davies back.

I still think I'd like to see Davies back (if nothing else, it suggests that there is real ambition in the club)... but the idea is not such the burning desire as it was.

I think you would be mad to bring Davies back.

We try and promote from within these days - but you cannot always and it doesn't always work.

As soon as he was doing well he would rip the heart out of the club, but then again maybe you should give him the job ;o)

Davis would bring everyone back.Remember the newspaper piece cited in another thread which detailed how he took them all to Glasgow to go over what happened at Forest. No doubt about it 🙂)) team Davis would be back.

My preferred option would be Davies. He has the ability and experience that no other realistic candidate (if, indeed, Davies can be considered realistic!) can match.

However, I just can't imagine it happening. We expected investment when both Ferguson and Brown were brought in and didnt get it so no reason to expect any this time. Davies could only be brought in with conditions attached (no Kelly?, little money etc.) and he just isn't going to compromise on those.

After that, I'd prefer someone experienced that GA/DU but I must admit that seeing them on the touchline kicking every ball did get me excited!

No time for sentiment though - it needs the best we can afford. And I'd like to think we could afford better than two untried candidates.

If it isn't Davies then I'd like it to be Alexander. They showed on Saturday that with the resources available to them, these two will, most probably, pick the best team they can and play the right players playing in the right positions and those players will put in a good shift for them. A new face coming in might not get that reaction.

The match on Boxing Day might well be decisive in determining whether Alexander/Unsworth get the job. For one thing they will have to show that they can make a slightly improvised team perform - remember Smith will be absent and at the moment we have no idea whether Mellor and Proctor will be available. If they can do that they really will put themselves in a strong position.

Bang on!

v Carlisle...

Stuckmann

Gray Morgan McCoombe Parry
Mayor Doyle Coutts Daley
Hume Tsoumou

SUBS.

Turner
McLaughlin
Carlisle
Barton
Zibaka

Tsoumou plays if neither Mellor or Proctor are fit, Daley to finally get his chance with Connor on the bench waiting to fill in at LB pushing Parry up if required.

Is there only me that thought we looked shit against MK Dons????

Other than the first 15 mins we did yes, but think Mellor going off contributed greatly to that. It left a not match fit Hume up front on his own and Barton was rubbish again.

We must have done something right to have stopped the form team from scoring. If Grezzworth follow it up with a win against Carlisle and Sheff Wednesday then you can't really go ahead and appoint anyone else as manager.
