What's with the Billy Davies hating all of a sudden?

I'm happy to be one of the few. I think his recent record is questionable - he spent an absolute fortune at Forest and didn't get them up. He also moaned about having too little to spend all season, but that's BD for you. He gets his excuses in early so he can point fingers at others and try to exonerate himself of any blame afterwards.

He falls out with every chairman he works for. Davies and Ridsdale would be clash of the egos. It would never work.

Fantastic post.

Taking on Billy Davies would have enormous implications financially. Unless things have changed over the last few days I don't think we can afford him and all that he would require. I'd like to think we could but the way I understand it, we can't.

The logical step is to give our present affordable partnership at least 3 more games to show their mettle.

Maybe TH has decided to go for it and the discussion centres around "how much do you want Billy? 10, 15 or 20 million?"

Don't get me wrong, Davies oversaw a fantastically successful spell for us. We were a feared team, could win ugly and rarely conceded goals.

But we know what re-appointing him comes with. He's only looking out for what's best for himself. He never cared about this club, he doesn't now and he never will do. No matter what he says about 'unfinished business' can stay like that for me.

Jamie Hoyland and Dean Ramsdale are doing a remarkable job with the youth setup, bringing through many first team players now. Unsworth has done well with the reserves and we can move Grezza into some form of coaching role.

Davies would come in and chuck the lot out for his entourage of cronies. Then when something 'better' comes along, he takes off and takes them all with him and we're left with nothing yet again.

Look what has happened since Davies went. We've struggled to have a manager for over a year each time, it's time we stopped being so short sighted and went with something we can stick with.

Unfortunately, Billy Davies is not that man. He won't be tied down to Preston North End.

Is it generally accepted that our brand of football was not attractive when BD?

I've read this a lot... and I just don't remember it that way.

Anybody who thinks the Poisoned Dwarf is the man for the job should read this.

Despising the cunt is nothing new, I have ever since he walked away and stripped us bare. He doesn't, and never will, give a shit about PNE. If he came then he'd simply be using us as a spring board to a "better job".

Anyway, I think he should hold out for the Blackburn job.😉

Kean is doing a great job!

I think you may be the delusional one. There are always two sides to every story. Don't discount the possibility of BD returning. I would be delighted if he did.

Me too Harry. I have only seen (not even heard) one side of the story and regardless of that, I know he could do wonders for the club. What he is outside of that I dont give a shite about.

There is no doubt that if he did come back it would be to use us for his own ends. He must not be allowed to bring in 'his team' of backroom staff with the exception of Ned Kelly. He should also agree to keeping the reserves and their staff etc.
There is no question over his ability as a manager - we would stand a decent chance of making the Championship this season and for that reason alone I would take him back - it's just his ability to be a scheming, back stabbing little shit that needs to be watched.

You mean we will only be using him to boost his career again🙄

I did want him back at first, against my better judgement, mainly due to the desperation of our abject situation. I don't think it is the one result and performance under GA/DU that has changed my mind, it's the realisation that we would probably lose them if BD came in. Our youth and reserve teams have been run brilliantly of late, in stark contrast to our first team. Could we afford to keep all the current staff and BD's backroom team? No, they'd have to go. What if they then go on to be the next Moyes or even Davies and we missed out? How long would it take us to recover when he leaves and takes them with him again? How would the return of the splitters affect the morale of our other staff? Could be a few ruptions in the camp.

As much as BD's return would be good in the short term (no pun intended), all I see is problems in the medium/long term. I firmly believe we should look at the bigger picture and build for long term, sustained success. Invest in our coaching staff and youth players. We can't afford not to.

Nor me. It was usually a pleasure to watch us back then.

I remember it both ways. Great times, exciting football, but also time wasting and no love lost from pundits or opposing fans either. Not that I care too much about that, but I didn't like the association of our club with cynical gamesmanship.
