What's with the Billy Davies hating all of a sudden?

What's with the Billy Davies hating all of a sudden?

As for Unsworth and Alexander, well unless I was watching a different game on Saturday we played like absolute shit and MK Dons were all over us in the second half, we were lucky.[/QUOTE]

We played great against a team flying high in our league, and stopped them from scoring which not many teams have managed this season. Only their fith loss at home so far this season
Also lets not forget this is the "third" tier of league football and in light of that I would be happy with us playing like this every week. If we did it would be playoffs at least.
1_0 to the PNE etc etc

We played great?

It was a great result, we were far from "great", in fact I thought we looked piss poor after Mellor went off.

You'd be happy playing like that every week? Remarkable!

I agree with you regarding Davies' ability but I still can't stand him and don't want him as our manager. Surely he isn't the only one who can sort this mess out. I actually wanted Unsworth to be given the job when Ferguson finally went - admittedly I also thought that the orange one would do a job for us. As far as suddenly hating Davies, I couldn't stand him when he was our manager but results help you to put up with people I suppose. Sometimes you have to support people despite your personal feelings about them (Ridsdale is another case in point). Unsworth, with Alexander as assistant, would be my choice - without question!

Before 5pm on Saturday, everyone (bar the odd few) was drooling over the prospect of Billy Davies.

It now seems that a scrappy 1-0 win against MK Dons has turned everyone into suddenly wanting either Unsworth or Alexander at the helm?

Why? Because the players looked like they were playing for them. In reality, the players were just playing in a formation and role that seemed natural to every single one of them. Left footers on the left, right footers on the right etc. This is why we won. We have one of the best teams in this division, we should win most games with our strongest 11.

If Billy came in, he'd no doubt be forced to keep Unsworth, and I can imagine him employing Alexander as a coach because they got on well last time. It seems 1 result, a 1-0 win, has made everyone turn there back on the greatest manager we've had since Moyes, of which there have been a number.

Lets be rational here, Davies has the ability to take us back up, we've no idea about the ability of Unsworth or Alexander just yet, and this isn't the time to be taking risks.

I agree with you. I think the reason I and others now see GA/DU as contenders is due to their logical team selection: they put out what I would say was the best team available to them. On top of that their subs were logical (Barton was shit but it was the right tactical move I thought). Basically, if we want the cheap option we have it there and it might be a good move.

However, if Davies is interested, even if GA/DU win the next 2 games, I'd get him in asap.

Agree we were far from great but at least it was a step in the right direction in difficult circumstances. I feel pretty sure I know what would have happened after Mellor went off if Brown or indeed Ferguson had still been in charge. I maintain the pair should have a few games to prove themselves.

Don't get me wrong, Davies oversaw a fantastically successful spell for us. We were a feared team, could win ugly and rarely conceded goals.

But we know what re-appointing him comes with. He's only looking out for what's best for himself. He never cared about this club, he doesn't now and he never will do. No matter what he says about 'unfinished business' can stay like that for me.

Jamie Hoyland and Dean Ramsdale are doing a remarkable job with the youth setup, bringing through many first team players now. Unsworth has done well with the reserves and we can move Grezza into some form of coaching role.

Davies would come in and chuck the lot out for his entourage of cronies. Then when something 'better' comes along, he takes off and takes them all with him and we're left with nothing yet again.

Look what has happened since Davies went. We've struggled to have a manager for over a year each time, it's time we stopped being so short sighted and went with something we can stick with.

Unfortunately, Billy Davies is not that man. He won't be tied down to Preston North End.

I actually agree with you and think you have put together a well thought out post.

If Davies was to return I think there should be conditions he has to work to, he knows his budget and he is allowed to bring a certain number of his own staff but must work with the current set up.

We played great? May I suggest a trip to Specsavers, we were fucking awful after Mellor went off! In the second half we were lucky to even make it out of our own half and Sky's possession stats showed that. Yes it as a good result against a high flying team but please don't try and paint it as something better.

If we played like that against good opposition like MK Dons then I'd take a scrappy 1-0 win yes, every single day of the week. Would you not?

It's when we're playing poorer teams we should be beating easily with the players we've got. But I'd take the 3 points however they come this season, aslong as it meant promotion.

He left because the board wouldn't match his ambition, by backing him, simples. So off he trotted for a better package elsewhere, big deal.

I can only presume those slating him on this message board have never left a job, for better terms elsewhere.

The best manager outside the Premiership, FACT!

Not Big Sam or Adkins?

Oh come on! If he had just left for a better job there wouldn't be an issue with him. You seem to have forgotten an awful lot of the events after his departure.

No, but we played a great defensive game.

For the first time in ages, I actually felt fairly confident the opposition weren't going to score. We defended brilliantly throughout and I can't think of one clear cut chance for them.

Like a lot of others BD is a manager of the past. His delivery record with little money is very good. His constant whineing about lack of money and using it as an excuse will undoubtedly put most if not all chairmen off hiring him.

Personally, I would not welcome him back irrespective of his ability because of the way he treated OUR club. I'm sure that he would have no compunction about doing the same again in the future.

For all those sceptics regarding Billy coming back.

Hasn't the oracle that is The big e stated that Davies is his number 1 target??

Billy Davies had already been sacked by Motherwell I think before Craig Brown appointed him. After Brown's dismissal, Billy became manager and it was obvious that he was a determined, fiery Scotsman who knew exactly what he was doing and where he was going. He was a success and as a consequence was in high demand. Other clubs came knocking and Billy opened the door for them and closed it firmly in Preston's face. The problem is, will he be as good this time round? Does he want to bring an entourage with him? Is PNE just a springboard to relaunch his career? Some difficult questions for our new chairman to answer. I think if he comes back, it is on our terms and not his and I suspect that this is what the stumbling block is to his appointment. I would hate to think all that is good about the club would disappear just to make room for Bill et al.

I thought it was inevitable they would score as they were so completely dominant. I think it was more down to them being short of ideas in the final third than us "defending brilliantly".
