Phil Didn't lose the dressing room!!

I just enjoyed a nice piece of quiche

However, I did so in a facebook and twitter free environment, one in which the same instant repsonse culture has been fostered however.

The idea of getting so much from 140 characters is a strange one to me

Twitter is a social cancer - just like texting and facebook.

Nobody discusses anything in any detail anymore - it's just like/dislike and the other limited one-dimensional interactions that these mediums/media allow.

Society has gone to the dogs - the world is apparently full of people who stare into their mobile device (lunatics lanterns) and are now incapable of normal conversation.

^^^^^ Spot on.

Don't think for a second that I don't understand blogging and facebook.

It's the stupidity of the users, well maybe not stupidity, more naivety that I find it hard to understand.
It's the notion that telling everyone who wants to read your antics, intimate thoughts and details about your isolated existence is somehow normal, and then getting mad when you make yourself look even more of a dickhead!

Texting, Facebook and Twitter - killing converstion in a location near you 😛

But you're all on an Internet forum expressing your thoughts and opinions and having "conversations" - how do you differentiate that from social media?

Fair point mouse
I am dismissive because I don't use it so knuckles rapped there

I prefer the old values of conversation, debate, analysis, opinion, often shared over a pint at the local not from behind a keyboard (says he tapping away)
It's no coincidence that pubs have closed to the extent they have is it ?

Maybe I should try and embrace face page or whatever ?

theres plenty of good analysis on twitter though tbf. It does seem a bit silly when you get people who really havent a clue criticising twitter with boring cliches like "I dont want to hear what you had for tea" when in reality it, along with other social media, has lead to a bit of a proliferation of good quality opinion and analysis getting aired when it previously wouldnt have had a chance in a medium dominated by the golf club buddy stupidity of MOTD, old boy elitism of sky and agenda driven drivel of the tabloids.

and im not really a twitter user anymore.

it's less self projecting - I don't have pictures of myself and others, and I'm not linked to a load of other numpties.

These "message boards" are discussion forums where like minded people discuss shared interests.

Facebook/twitter are just places where people tell you that they've just had a big steamy shit, and that it had bits of sweetcorn in it!! and then other sad bastards say like/dislike!

I just finished some hash browns with horseradish sauce in Dubai, anyone going to +1 that? 😉

I have to say that on the whole I agree with Morte, but there is a large amount of "facebooking" of threads that goes on. However I do not see that is a big problem all the time, it allows rapid exchange of views.

I would love to see some of this high quality analysis that is on twitter, I do not have an account in fairness.

Yep - just shoved my arse out a window in the 8* Penthouse atop the Burj Khalifa and had a dump. The high winds meant it landed on a raghead ayahtollah in Iran. Result.

I will go higher than that 33819ft to be precise. They seem to have put wifi on the 380 so that means I can catch up with friends middle eastern defecation habits while soaring over the gulf.

They have routed us over Iraq today thanks to your recent diplomacy

To everyone who ironically slag off Facebook and Twitter; yet convieniently forget that they are tapping away on a social network site themselves. All get down to the sumners and have a few jars and discuss peoples views and put the world to rights. You never know you might like it.

This is a message/discussion board.

My truck with Facebook and Twitter is that they kill conversation in the normal sense - the irony of Twitter is that its strapline "join the conversation" is incorrect - it is merely add a few words, but no detail - that's how they keep it going, like Ferdinand and Blatter - jib jab jib jab - they had to use other more fullsome media to resolve thier argumment.😡

For the record, I do more than my bit for conversation in pubs - 5-6 nights a week we put the world to rights and agree a plan to become millionaires the next day - problem is that we can never remember what that plan was when we wake the next morning. 😛

Yes, however I was referring specifically to one they call Boggins who loves to write lengthy essays on Economic theory.

Ha ha. To be fair they turn me off as well! In fact a lot of the lengthy postings and threads on here do as I just don't have time to read them. Maybe it's a lifestyle thing?
