Match Day - PNE v Cardiff City - Championship - 27/06/20 - KO:12:30 pm

Can't be arsed reading the full thread as I was installing some cctv in a mates shop so haven't been on.

Some players were pretty poor but the main thing I took from the game was something we have all known for 2 years...we need a fucking decent striker.

The one goal came from a move exactly what I said i wanted to see from us when i saw Stockley was starting...problem was the first time we tried it was the 73rd minute.

Those saying Neil should have made subs earlier, and bring who on? Look at the chances missed by Nugent and Harrop both harder to miss than score. If Nugent buries that we win.

Blame lies firmly at the door of Trevor Hemmings for not sanctioning the purchase of a decent goalscorer
It certainly does lie at the door of Hemmings but in the last 2 games since lockdown and in many of the games since around Xmas time, do you seriously think we've had the intensity this side so badly needs to show, to cement a top 6 place? Of course chances need to be taken, we are barely creating them though an that lies with Alex

You have a proper striker and they get themselves in positions where the chances almost create themselves. We have an immensely talented midfield but when there is nobody in the right position for them to get the ball to it is wasted

Not everything is coming off for him but at least he is being direct and trying to make things happen, same can't be said for others.

He's played Stockley today in exactly the way he's played him, in other games. Too deep, looking to hold up, mainly flick on. He lost his battle on that front. I wanted to see him on the end of crosses in the 6 yard box, that very rarely happened because we play the same rigid way now

Morrison had the beating of Stockley all day. He should have moved onto Nelson earlier. Whether that was down to the manager or the player I don't know but if I were a striker and I was getting beat to every header I'd try my damndest to avoid being near that defender.

He tried, to a degree, but Morrison was free to follow him because nobody else was taking up that space in the box to occupy a second centre back.

Here's the team that pretty much took us to the top of the Championship over the first 15 games of the season and is the team that played when we went top at Charlton.

Whats changed?

Rudd
Fisher
Bauer
Davies
Rafferty
Pearson
Browne
Maguire
Johnson Substituted forGallagher at 31'minutes
Barkhuizen
Stockley

Any ideas anyone?
We got found out

Yeah that was mentioned in commentary, not sure if Stockley is slightly the taller of the 2. I did expect him to win a few more headers than what he did but if we are persistently going to use him in this way, he's never going to be goalscoring threat which we obviously need

Clinical
which player exactly has been clinical
we got a good few penalties and goals coming from all round the squad bar the strikers who’s job that is
we got found out

We took an extremely high percentage of our chances. It was never going to last.

We can blame hemmings for not signing a quality striker all day long, the way AN sets us up gives no service to the frontline so we could have any quality striker upfront and still come away with the same result. Grayson had Hugill £25,000 to work with but knew how to get the best out of him and play to his strengths
