PNE-Online and Mental Health

Citalopram take a minimum of six weeks to properly get in your system. The higher dose age you take the more they effect you when you stop taking them, so don’t just stop taking them suddenly 😁

I’m on them at the moment, very low dose. In the past I’ve been in three or four times the dose. Nothing to be ashamed of all the best people take them 😉
Anyone tried it for a quick hit...? I guess it depends what you take it for but we tried a 3 month fix which overcame the hurdle and then moved off them

The GPs I’ve spoken to say it’s a minimum of six month prescription.

Fair enough mate... I've an 80 year old mum that i visit for a few hours every Sunday, I / she haven't taken any notice of the advise... Yes it's probably irresponsible but life has to go on....Best of luck fella.

Surely visiting your 80 year old mother is within the rules, I’m assuming she lives on her own?

I don't know if it's mentioned elsewhere, but there's a very good interview in today's Times with Declan Rudd, mentioning a few of the personal hurdles he's had to contend with in the last few years, and how he's set about rectifying them as well as helping others to do likewise. It makes him a...very... big man. (I didn't realise he was 29yrs old).

Feel like I’m starting to feel a little trapped and suffocated in this 3rd lockdown. Every day is the same, weather is awful. Things I normally enjoy I’m starting to find tedious and having some horrible mood swings. Don’t know what’s wrong with me. Just feel like I need to vent a little.

Are you exercising mate? I know it’s not a miracle cure for everyone but can really lift your mood if you’re short of alternatives at the moment.

Then vent away my friend. It is no cliche at all to say that talking helps a hell of a lot.

Usually big on exercise and fitness pre covid etc love the gym and 5 aside/ basketball but with winter and hating home workouts, find staying motivated difficult: Think it’s definitely a factor though as I was previously so big on it and found massive enjoyment from it. Surprisingly didn’t cross my mind how that might be affecting me

I’m not able to go swimming at the moment and it’s killing me a bit to be honest, feel like half a person. Took up running and it was providing a measure of relief but my fucking right knee packed in a few days ago so have had to lay low for a bit. I’m fucking 29 and my body’s giving up on me!

Anyway mate, maybe go for a run or, if you cba leaving the house, there are some good, energetic home workouts on YouTube that are a decent substitute. Will give you an endorphin boost at the very least.

Haha I understand mate. I’m 24, lower back is playing up and I don’t do a lot of road running anymore after I tore my ACL a few years back playing basketball for John Moore’s Uni! Yeah might just need a positive goal to work on while this is ongoing. Keep me focused maybe. Getting back fit/ in shape. Cheers Pumba 👍🏻

I can relate to that.
I've been active pretty much all my life and competed in Muay Thai at a reasonable level in the past.
I'm now (was) going to the gym 2-3 times a week just to keep as fit as I can be with my youngest son who is starting to excel at the same sport.
In my experience, if you've trained hard in the past, when you stop the weight just piles on.
Any way, gyms have now been shut for about a month now and in that short space of time I've put on about 18lbs in weight and it's only going to get worse ( though the food and alcohol consumption probably hasn't helped.😁
From what I've read, gyms have not been the breeding ground for this horrible virus. They need to be opened back up sharpish. People need to exercise for physical and mental reasons.
I'm finding the lack of proper exercise really tough atm.

Just wait till you're my age.

I’ve read all the stuff on exercising, and agree that’s a superb way of feeling better, but how about something totally different. How about reading? Or writing. Or trying some arts or craft stuff. I promise you will get just as much relief. It’s all about getting your brain an interest to deflect from the shite.

Keep smiling 😁

I'd have to be taught first.

Well said Nobber, got to keep the mind turning on your self, sent my mind off to the war of the roses, and the 1066 battle ( disputing now were it took place ) never studied it before, bet I could get a PHD in it now, 🤣

Exactly that..... we don’t have to be exercise junkies (although it helps) we can find our mind in other places. Try everything!

Some great advice here. Find your groove. Exercise is quite individual do find what works for you. Someone it’s just taking a long walk. Love the suggestion about creative ideas - art therapy is a common strategy for people with mental health problems. Let us know you’re ok @BallyPNE
