10 players contracts coming to an end in June (none of any I would renew). This still leaves a squad of 21 players.
Woodman, Whiteman, McCann & Browne the only players that could attract a worthwhile fee it doesn’t look too promising. When will we know our retained list ?
 
The summer market will be flooded with players who will be holding out for the best deal they can get. I think it's going to be a very slow market, the only winners will be the agents.

Flipping this particular coin, those that "wait out" might very well find themselves without a club, of a decent standard, if it is as flooded as you predict.
 
The reality of the transfer window is that our budget will be squeezed again. As will that of other clubs. Unfortunately we do not have the budgets of the bigger teams or the ex prem bailouts.
Let's hope for a few rabbits out of the hat.
It's a bit worrying as to what we could need.
Could do with a couple of the loan guys back especially Cannon and Alvaro.
Praying for a miracle.

We need a "Summer 2023 : Transfer Window Rumours and Discussion" thread for questions like that - this thread is for confirmed transfer/contract business only.
 
If all those whose contracts are up in June do leave this summer, that leaves us with only 21 players on our books. 7 of that 21 are "U21" players, none of whom have given any indication whatsoever that they will be up to Championship standard in the next 12 months.

Out of the 14 genuine first team squad players the only 2 strikers will miss the start of the season through injury - 1 may never play again (and probably shouldn't risk it). At least 3 of the remainder are probably League 1 standard (Ledson, Bauer and Cornell).

On top of this I expect one or more of Woodman, Whiteman and Browne to be sold this summer.

We need a miracle in the shape of new owners or we are only heading in one direction.
 
I expect Cunningham, Olosunde, Woodburn, Brady, Coulton, Nevin, Bennett and Amaral to be released.
Not sure about Onomah.
DJ is the quandry. He may have decided to leave rather than accept a reduced salary. Personally I would release him because he is past his peak.

On a purely footballing level, do you genuinely think we could replace him with better quality for the same money and no transfer fee?

Seems like a no brainer to keep him if he'd stay.

Sadly think there's no chance.

Whilst the budget should be increased the main problem is how it is spent by the Fat Controller
 
Cunningham (age/injuries)
Bauer (age/injuries)
Olosunde (League 1/Phantom)
Woodburn (League 1)
Ledson (League 1)
All of these need to go 💯
Would love to see Tom cannon and to a lesser extent Alvaro Fernandez back I’d also give Brady and Big Josh a contract as they’re very few players in our squad who have any top flight experience so I think with a good pre-season they could be valuable squad members.
 
If the Ashley Barnes rumours are true, that's very encouraging as a) he won't be cheap and b) there's no way someone of his standing is going to be happy with 12th place.

Think the outcome will be we tried but couldn’t match what other clubs were offering
