Matchday Thread PNE v Middlesbrough -14-02-24 - KO:7.45PM - Championship

Superb result. Sure the performance was not much more than hardworking but we worked hard throughout. No-one played badly -no-one played outstandingly. It would have been better with Millar on the left. Brady showed why he can be a useful sub but simply cannot impose himself when he starts. But the main thing is that on the 10th anniversary of the passing of Sir Tom we marked the occasion appropriately. This was a great three points but it was also much more then that.

Thought it was all over when they equalised but fair play to Lowe and the players they got back in front and held on. Not great but our early season luck seems to have returned. Two strikers off and two on worked well.
Felt sorry for Osmajic the other day but not now, after that missed chance.
Better born lucky than rich, as the saying goes.

I’ve been very critical of Brady but he more than did a job tonight, he imposed himself on the game and an excellent right sided player in Ayling hardly got a sniff. Cunningham equally was excellent.

I suspect Whiteman might miss a few games, it looked like a thigh early on and when he went off he looked like he wanted to go the treatment room but he was seemingly told to stay on the bench.

Big three points which was hard fought with chances taken.

Beat the plastics on Saturday & we might even have a glimpse upwards a little.

Hopefully injuries don't cause us issues, must be hard work on the heavy pitch.

That’s a huge result for us and out of nowhere we’re somehow right back in it. Thought Cunningham was absolutely brilliant, as were Brady and Storey. Lowe set the team up right and credit to him, his subs were logical and like for like.
His subs were ok but we nearly saw Woodburn again until Whiteman was injured and replaced by McCann.

It’s plain fact that, except for the very top teams, getting a third consecutive win is statistically not common and we probably should have been expecting a bump in the road. Fortunately Boro are devoid of confidence and we’ve been able to grind out a win.
Hopefully the bump in the road is behind us!
