Matchday Thread PNE v Middlesbrough -14-02-24 - KO:7.45PM - Championship

1st half was woeful, but 2nd half we were better. Thought Brady was a lot better in the 2nd half too after a first half stinker so hopefully he carries on as he's actually been decent since Bristol onwards so doesn't really warrant the hyper analysing he seems to still be getting.

Not sure about the moaning in the 2nd half about being dominated. Possession doesn't equal being dominated.

They had 20 shots in that match and didn't even accumulate 1 xG which is terrible chance creation, averaging under 0.05 xG per shot. They only had one big chance and they didn't score from it.

Not a pretty game as a Preston fan, but was never going to be really against Middlesbrough with the way they play. Decent result.

10 points from 12 , well done Lowe…..

Credit where it’s due….
Agree Ando we all know RL faults but these results lately are brilliant something pre Bristol C game I was not expecting at all about time. He sure has lots to do with many fans which we all know but least results wise are picking up currently.

Freddie stops an equaliser.
Agree it was an instinctive save, so full marks, however his kicking out tonight was some of the worst I have ever seen with the majority going to the opposition, nowhere in particular or into touch. Surely that should have been taken into consideration before awarding him MOM.

Nothing wrong with the tactics tonight, generally did our best to attack when we could, we just aren't very good at it. With perhaps the exception of Mads and Keane we are just deeply average as a team when we have the ball. Unsure if that's a lack of ability or poor coaching, probably a bit of both.

But by hook or by crook we got the result and are somehow still in the frame. What we do have is guts and effort.
Only if win = tactics good. And lose = tactics bad. But it's not as simplistic as that is it. We need to find a way to be better / more confident on the ball, especially when seeing out a win.

Rather than struggling to put 2-3 passes together for large stretches of the game. If Boro had a competent striker they'd have scored more than one imho.

Yeah been much improved over the last 3 games, but 7 goals from 9 shots on target just isn’t sustainable.

Just back home, well a win is a win and any win is a good win I suppose but it was a hard watch tonight.
What gets my goat is the amount of times we throw the ball to the opposition on a regular basis and similar with headers, we give the ball away far more than other teams appear too.
We never had control of the midfield and it was quite ponderous for long periods.
Still, onwards and upwards (hopefully) A resounding win on Saturday would be gratefully welome, regadless of stats :

Thought that was a strange game, entertaining but not in a fun way! We looked very leggy from the off and mentally tired as well. So many misplaced passes and poor control, it was very alarming.

But we found a way to win, aided by Ian Turner's regen in goals.

Beat Rovers and the Cov game will be huge.
