PNE Fans responsible for lack of ambition?

PNE Fans responsible for lack of ambition?

Don't agree with everything said here but this is an excellent thread with all sides making valid points. This is the quality of debate we should have for every thread.

You'd have thought that at some point, somewhere we'd fluke a win in order to achieve something though.

It's almost as though we're scared of success. 😱

dan i've seen us win 3 promotions, including 2 championships. i've seen us go on great runs to get in the play offs, and what about games like birmingham at home, where we beat a much bigger club than ourselves to get to cardiff.

was that not a night where we achieved something?

i think the problem is we far exceed expectations, to the point where some fans think losing to west ham in the play off final is failure, when there were 15 much bigger clubs than us that didn't even make it into the play offs that year.

my take on it is, if we keep hovering around the play off positions as we have done for much of this decade, eventually we will sneak through.

Just compare our atterndances with Burnleys attendances.....ours are very very similar but I think are actually a few hundred higher than them ( & they've been getting all the puiblicity this season).

- And, if you take their inclusive 'take' as streching from Nelson/ Colne/ Barrowford - right throught to the Rossendale Valley & then as far west as Accrington.......ALL that is a much-more densely-populated area of Lancashire compared to the 'take' of PNE, which goes south to Leyland/ Chorley, East as far as half-way to Blackburn, West to say, Kirkham - and (granted , a relatively sparsely-populated area )North as far as the Southern half of the Lakes.......- I'd say that by comparison we are holding-up our end.

Again, in comparison with Burnley, the choice for a fan to travel to any Club in side one Hours travel is large: - Blackpool, Blackburn, Bolton & now bl**dy Wigan. And then also the 4 Big-City Clubs.

I just wish Trevor would consider two things:- (1)That Promotion for PNE is just as, if not more - Important than Staving-Off Relegation & (2) That sinking good money into Race-horses is just a perpertual bottomless pit , as they all end up as "Chum" or "Chappie" etc etc.

Explain?
I think this is the crux of our problem.. The apathy towards PNE from the Preston public

Its not down to PNE fans though is it.Its down to the people of Preston supporting prem teams instead of Preston.Actual PNE fans are no different to any other town or city in terms of apathy towards their team. But some fans can no longer afford to go,some lifelong fans have just stopped going due to the non existent atmosphere and overpaid players, and no smoking. But the main problem is Man Utd and Blackburn and to a smaller extent Liverpool,Chelsea and Arsenal.Youve lost 40% of your catchment before you even start and Preston isnt a big town to start with!Money and TV has ruined Prestons chances and to say stay away supporters are to blame is just ridiculous.I know you have to try and keep up with the Jones's to a certain extent but all these greedy chairman taking tv money and players showing no loyalty and agents etc etc have drove fans away for good also.

Didnt really deserve a longer answer but i have provided one above to just to appease you as you your so knowledgable!

not really. but its no wonder people get miffed with people on here as when u ask a serious question u get people just commenting without ever backing their opinions up. Glad u have now though

That's the fear John - we'll be going down before we go up if we don't make a concerted effort IMO.

Indeed Danny.....and while I sit nearer the middle of the fence than you do on this one (well on most things probably 😀)....something significant need to happen in the summer or we will be spending another few million getting us out of the shite at the wrong end of the table..........

Depressed of Leyland 🙁

Just a though but do you think Cardiff & Burnley fans feel this way as well? I think I'm right in thinking they've sat in this league for as long as we have?

They've probably got a similar split of (no ambition/happy to be here) as us BUT I think what makes it worse for us is that we've come so bloody close so many times & failed.

Hence the frustration. You could argue that we should be pushing harder. Still, we're not getting relegated.

Well done Derek! 🙄

This isn't going to help much but I'm totally split in that I am reasonably content at this level BUT obviously would like to achieve the ultimate goal of promotion. However only with minimal risk because gambling & losing and doing a Leeds is so bloody frightening!!
