Mawene ?
Just got back from the game and Mawene was much better than davies today by a long way.
Davies was injured early on , to be fair : Youl was warming up before 10 minutes had passed .

any one have their own views on why he has been dropped ?
There maybe a condition in the loan deal for Davies stating that he must start

From what I've been told, Irvine often pulls out of loan deals early on when the loaning club stipulates how many games the player has to start etc. There maybe a condition in the loan deal for Davies stating that he must start

He was DAVIS, not Davies.
Davies yesterday was the worst player on the pitch imo.😡 I count him as being at fault for all 3 goals. Something that the Championship programme did not show was that he was down injured on the field of play during the build up for Southampton's 3rd. He only thought of getting off the pitch after the final ball was played... too late, he had played them onside. He made a pass to the opposition for their first goal. Their second came as a result of him not being able to clear his lines and pass to a PNE player when under very little pressure. Short build up then led to that 2nd goal.
Most of his clearances go to the feet of an opposing player. Also he managed to get in SSL's way, crashing into him on one occasion.
Now I know why Stoke don't pick him. Mawene is much better and should start from now on. Maybe if Mawene had started we would have deservedly won that game. Our approach play was very good and often finished with a good shot, especially in the second half - although our first half had its moments too, despite what AI has said. But we were up against a goalie whose day it was, and officials who were homers and couldn't even give us a cast iron penalty when Brown was dragged down rugby-style.
We have played far worse than that and won!

That annoyed the hell out of me.
I think it was a strange decsion to change a back four which has been playing well recently. Excluding the disater at Swansea we had been conceding very few goals and not looking like conceding.
Without Mawene we looked a disorganised mess at the back, St Ledger and Davies lacked any understanding and for me we played too deep again.

Yep. Send Davies back. We don't need a player in defence that has very little defensive intelligence. It ships goals.
Mawene pulled up in training before the Norwich game with a tight hamstring and could not train in the few days before that match, that is why Irvine brought Davies in.
It was only last Saturday that Mawene was considered fit enough to be put on the bench. I presume the clean sheet against Norwich meant Irvine decided not to change things. Here is hoping Mawene is OK now and returns to shore up the defence.

Possibly Irvine's biggest misake this season was sticking with Davies instead of Youl. Cant see him playing again. Like i have said before on another thread and in the past we are suppose to have a quality player in Collins why cant he even make the bench?

What a load of rubbish, it would of made no difference had Youl been playing from the start, the goals came about through midfielders no doing their jobs, tracking back and winning the second ball.
I thought overall the defence did ok, yes Southampton scored 3, but with no support and protection from the midfield as per usual, our defence was always going to be under pressure.

Not when your elders are superfluous to requirements. We already have a board 'angry troll', don't need another one like you 😉

1st goal came from Nicholson giving the ball away, St Ledger fucking up then making a tackle sending the ball across our box to their player who scored.
2nd goal came form a shot from outside the area. Unchallenged with loads of time and space.
3rd goal came from Sedgwick losing the ball at the edge of their area and them running the length of the pitch unchallenged.
What does our midfiled not getting back have to do with any of these goals?
After Mawene came on how many chances did Southampton have? One that I remember. Mawene cooly mopped everything up 2nd half and the defnce had shape. First half they were all over the place. Jones, Nolan and Str Ledger had their worst games for ages. IMO a disorganised mess.
