we use to dick teams at home 3 or 4 nil now its 1-0 we use to play sunderland beat them 4-1 , we ply southampton at home beat them 3-0 where has all this gone? we are beating teams who should be getting dicked on by a heavy scoreline. im not saying its a bad thing but the excitement at deepdale was fantastic then

Football has morphed into a tedious chess game, devoid of excitement and incident. Take away the carnival on the Town End and you are left with an overpriced box of unwashed vegetables.

Do you know what? Most of the folks on here still fucking moaned their arses off even when we were mate. I can clearly remember lots of silly bastards moaning that Cresswell's hat trick against Sunderland was rubbish. I mean how the f*ck do you even get a "rubbish hat trick" when you're a striker? Still people used to have a go at him for not spreading his goals out and saving them for the thrashings we used to dish out at home just as you're moaning how many goals we win by.

A win is a win, we have to accept that any home win in a division like this is a great three points.

I for one was incensed when Cresswell had the audacity to celebrate his hat trick in a style I deemed inappropriate.

(He raised his left arm and punched the air when I would have preferred the right, with more of a side-on punch.)

He also did not smile enough.

I think teams are now coming to Deepdale hoping to keep things tight, frustrate us by playing a high defensive line and try and nick a goal on the break. Even when we take the lead, the lower teams in the division just don't open up and therefore the game doesn't become as stretched.

We're at our best against the better teams because they're prepared to take risks and open up a bit, however its very rare for the better teams to be thrashed even away from home.

We're being shown a lot of respect at home, teams are happy to escape with a point which shows that we must be doing something right. Our home record is fantastic, unfortunately our away form isn't a patch on what we've achieved at Deepdale.

Exactly
Negative football started in the Prem and has filtered down the leagues.

Ther are few teams about as shit as Leeds or Sunderland were then and against Sunderland it could have been 5-4.

Earlier this year we were in a postion to beat teams by bigger scores but made mistakes allowing them back in the game. Charlton, Forest and Southampton at home come to mind. We could have hammered Plymouth too but their keeper saved them.

We dont attack in numbers is one reason,we are outnumbered 2 to 1 ,in that penalty area ,and the lack of shooting power by all our strikers is another factor and we play far to deep,
Remember Keegan style, exciting football to watch win 5-4 and he was happy whith that .

Stupid thread! Is it me or do you get the same amount of points for winning 1-0 as you do for winning 5-0.🙄

Last time we smashed someone for 5 we were in the bottom 3, now were winning home games marginly and in the top 6, take your pick, but i no which one i'd rather be in. Some people....

probably not the last time we scored 5, but one of the most memorable for me was when we beat luton, think it was 5-1 and kevin nicholls went in net after the luton keeper had been sent off. 😱

I bet he was shit in goals too!

Was that when Tony Lormer scored a brace?

Fair point, but beating somebody 1-0 when it could and perhaps should have been 3-0 could be the difference between going up and staying where you are. Or staying up and going down.

I can remember that only 18 months ago - we beat the team we played on Saturday - at Deepdale.
That was 5-1 .
Fortunately, soon after that we got rid - (and deservedly so ) of the then PNE manager.

And my point is - you can thrash a team & still be poor enough for your manager to get sacked less than a month afterwards.
And hopefully you can also play badly & still accumulate enough points to get into the playoffs....

But I'd be happier if we could play with a stronger midfield each & every game - otherwise in the Play-Offs we'll be very, very lucky to go any further.

A fair point.I also didnt like the fact that he did not applaud every stand or do any Earnshaw style acrobatics!

It is too dour at the End-of-the-day though ,IMO.

It won't get the crowds coming flocking.

But under Davies, Broon or Slumpson they didn't exactly kill themselves in the rush to come, did they?

Getting Healy, Appleton & Macken in practically one-fell-swoop from Man U seems a bloody long time ago now - but HOW did we do it ? - and COULD we get a trio of matchwinners in-one-fell-swoop from a Premiership club EVER AGAIN ? ?

wE CERTAINLY NEED TO DO SUMMAT in order to not-stand still.

Mr. Hemmings - standing still is the same as going backwards - as attendances will dwindle futher and further.....
