Chris Gunter (RUMOUR - NOW LOANED TO FOREST)

Chris Gunter (RUMOUR - NOW LOANED TO FOREST)

Middle of the park instead of Chaplow perhaps?

BJ is excellent at RB but having a solid replacement RB there and a combative player able to get forward at pace - as with Jonesy - may well give us another dimension and avoid us having to simply lump it to the Beast or ask for some Wallace Wizadry. Sounds exciting - worth a chance as the season reaches boiling-point, or better to stick? I suppose this is the kind of conundrum that Al is paid for

Sprus willing to send Gunter to Preston.

Tottenham are ready to send Wales right back Chris Gunter, out of the side since he moved from Cardiff, on loan to promotion-chasing Preston.
Gunter played for Wales against Poland last week but wants regular club action, and North End boss Alan Irvine would like to take him on loan for the rest of the season and do a deal this week.
Gunter hopes regular first team action at another club will put him in the shop window and get him a full-time move away from Spurs next summer.

There would be no point acquiring Gunter simply as an alternative to Jones. We just don't need further multiplication of resources at right back. After all both Nolan and St Ledger can play there if necessary. But if there is any truth in this rumour we will find out soon enough and also just what AI's intentions are.

Gunter was playing wingback role for wales.

Perhaps he will be cover/replacement for sedgwick?

When do you ever believe what tribal football says? It's an Australian website, and they can't even spell Spurs correctly!😱

I just don't understand this one, he's probably a good player but right back is one position we are well off in with Jones, Nolan and St Ledger who can all play there and not forgetting Micheal Hart who might just be fit again one day, and I believe Davies can play there.

What we really need is an athletic box to box centre midfielder who can cover Chaplow whilst he regains full fitness/form. Nicholson and Carter just don't cut the mustard and I hope that AI isn't considering Jones as the CM as despite the goals he looks lost in the position.

Agreed - though bringing in a left-back would allow us to move Davidson forward to midfield, at least when he is fit. On Saturday Davidson was constantly pushing forward to try to compensate for the inability of Jones and Carter to get a real grip on the game. The time is fast approaching when we probably ought to start thinking of Davidson as a midfielder who can fill in at fullback if required.

It's a weird one this rumour. Supposedly we did try and get him but at the time Spurs didn't want to loan him out because of the two competitions they were still in. Now they want him to go out on loan and we weren't interested as we had 3 players for full back. Callum's injury may change things again as Gunter can play left back.

However, on Brian Ellis' web chat on the LEP website, he said he had spoken to Irvine about Gunter and Irvine said he is very surprised at all these rumours, BUT things may change between now and end of the season. I really do hope we get him as he is a class act at this level with a point to prove.

AI maybe doesn't rate Davidson in centre mid. He had the opportunity to play him and not Jones there on Saturday. Anyway Davidson will be out again now but McKenna is back. Centre mid will be McKenna and Nicholson for Tuesday and this should be adequate but what's gonna happen at our remaining away games? We already know. More spineless performances.

Question: Does Derek not pay win bonuses at away games?

If he'd have played Davidson in midfield, it would have meant Nolan at left back and it wouldn't have been the most experienced of defences. Nolan has done a decent job for us at left back, but I would prefer someone more comfortable playing there. Lets get Gunter quick!

On RL he said that it was no secret that we tried to get him on loan at the end of January. I think he then said that his defensive priorities had changed since then - the loan of Davies presumably.

That's right. He said we tried getting him a few weeks back but Spurs said no, now our situation had changed and we didn't really need him. Might be different now Callum's injured though.
