Golly badge furore

Golly badge furore

A gollywog isn't offensive, if we didn't have them there would then be an outcry that we do not have black dolls.

Calling somebody a gollywog might offend, but a golly won't, unless you're a self loathing PC wanker.

Like I said, the story is a non story, but lets not pretend calling a black person a golliwog isnt offensive.

Perhaps it is, but is calling a golliwog a golliwog offensive? Or is a golliwog offensive in itself?

No.

what I dont understand about your argument is is it pc to call an asian person a paki or a roach. Or a Black person a nigger, a coon or a wog.

Like I said, the story is a non story, but lets not pretend calling a black person a golliwog isnt offensive.

Talk about twisting words to suit your PC argument, where have I called anyone a golliwog,.

I said it is a 19th century doll also a character used in popular childrens books, got fuck all to do with calling black people golliwogs or calling them names.

This for me is a good story...

The club's marketing/communications department will today be squirming at the fact they didn't respond to the LEP. The "declined to comment" (for whatever reason) from the club IS the story. However, the paper fannied around and chose to take the 'soft' lead...

Damage limitation will be running through the club's mind. I'll make a small bet that the club will post something up on its web 'setting the record straight'.

The main story is: PNE's marketing and communications nouse is s-s-s-shite and can't cut it.

The sub-plot is: LEP chanced its arm with a half-baked press release-based story and approached the club for a comment. The paper bottled it when told that the club didn't want to comment and, instead, ran with a watered-down version.

The REAL story is: the fans are let down (again) by the club's pitiful attempt at communication and let down (again) by a local newspaper who should serve its community better.

I was kind of responding to your last comment

what is a roach? or a coon?

my point being really that the word shouldnt be used too much because its an offensive word in all honesty. you dont have Nigger dolls or Paki dolls.

I dont think the dolls or the word should be banned or anything, or that the books should be burned. They have a part of cultural history that is singificant IMO. I just think its undeniable the word is offensive.

If not wanting to offend races of people by using offensive is PC, or makes me part of the PC brigade, then so be it.

I suppose the white characters in the Blyton Books, Plod, Noddy, Big Ears all white and all a bit idiotic portrayals of white people, couldn't be used to offend white people. (Plod is used), but the police would be laughed out of court if they told the magistrate the defendent called me Plod your honour and I was deeply offended.

Reason because white people don't take offence to labels attached or so called name calling. I cannot think of any name used against a white person that as ever offended me, or a word to describe a Brit, nothing is offensive to white people when it comes to name calling.

When have you ever seen a white person complain about being called a limey, honkey, white trash, pale faced scum (can't think of any by the way), never because it's all crap. PC is a load of bollocks, if I called one of the Black people I know a golliwog he/she would probably fall about laughing.

Who are the equivalents of the colourfully dressed golliwogs, clown dolls Andy Pandy all white, can't see a queue of white people saying destroy Andy Pandy books.

I imagine the reason Black people find racist words offensive is because, as a race, they've been constantly belittled with them, through slavery, through to the civil rights movements. How long has it been socially unacceptabel to call someone a nigger or a coon. My grandparents do it so its only up until recently.

When have white people ever had to deal with that kind of persecution in anyway really.

or we could put it down to black people being oversensitive 🙄

PC isnt bollox, PC going over the top is bollox, positive discrimination is bollox, but thinking its not right to call people with different coloured skin racially offesive terms is not bollox IMO.

Its not still April Fools day is it ??!!!!

Bloody "politically correct" brigade gone mad !!!!!!

to be fair theres a fair bit of difference between calling an english guy a pommie, or an australian an aussie then calling a black guy a gollywog FFS.

then to use Love thy neighbour as a reson as to why this country is degrading is just as fucking stupid as far as im concerned.

Who said anything about calling a black guy a gollywog except you. What I was trying to get over was the fact that whites are called different names but who cares then there are those (and you would appear to be one of them) who takes offence at a gollywog doll or badge, yet is it being aimed at any race?

I take it you were up in arms when 'Love Thy Neighbour' was on TV then. This country has gone to the dogs with all this PC or don't you agree (which if you don't then fair enough, I will not call you stupid for having a different point of view).

We English are not allowed to do/say certain things in our own country because it might upset those of other races/beliefs e.g. singing Christmas carols, hanging out the St George flag, wearing gollywog badges, etc. even singing the national anthem is fround upon at certain events/places. I have no problem people from other countries coming here to live but they should accept/respect our culture just like if I go abroad I accept their culture and if I emmigrated again I would accept their culture and also recognise that it was not miy country but theirs and respect them for that, not try and change it. Even in Scotland & Wales many an English person who has moved to live there has faced racism yet do we do the same to the many Welsh or Scots who have moved down here for a better life? No.

What were the 'workers' of england in the 19th century but slaves, debt prisons, workhouses, starvation, floggings (birch), hangings. Commoners the lot of of us, no rights to health services, welfare or working conditions, housing, kids down the mines, deportation for crimes (to hard labour in workcamps).

I don't think it had anything to do with the white masses of Britain, the perpetrators of slavery were the landowners and industrialists, most commoners or peasants didn't even know where Africa was or had been further than the next village. Slavery existed in Africa long before the white people got there, whole civilisations were founded upon slavery, Egypt to name but one, the buying and selling of people as slaves in Afica has been going on for thousnds of years, usualy amongst their own people, white slavers started to pick up slaves in Africa because they were for sale and in demand by the landowners and cotton barons in the west.

Why should anyone be tarnished by this, whether it be PNE or EBAY? And why is it a serious issue? "PC HAS GONE MAD" should have been the headlines in the LEP.

How does this hurt anyone?? Does being called a 'Pommie' by an Aussie upset anyone? Does calling Australians 'Ausies' upset them? Does being called a 'Limey' upset anyone? Or the French calling us 'Roast Beef'. They are just names and as far as I am concerned PC can get stuffed and those who are upset by such as these things, including golliewogs are just looking for something to get upset by and those who agree with them I assume will also be clamouring for the St George flags not to be flown on St George's Day but at the same time support anything Irish on St Pat's Day.

How much of an up roar was there in the 1970's when 'Love Thy Neighbour' was on TV?? This country has gone to the dogs and sliding further down the world scale of common sence😡.

As you may have gathered this has upset me somewhat.

My point was that the LEP used the word Tanished, and stuck on PNE. I was pointing out that its the auction website that allowed them to be sold, not PNE. PNE has a large multi-cultural fan-base and obviously declined to comment as not to offend anyone. How many Clubs did the LEP contact, by the looks of it most, yet only 8 responded. so out the other 84 league clubs that declined to comment, the LEP picked out PNE and none of the others to have a go at. Why coz the LEP are a fucking joke. Do they surve the people of Preston and Lancashire, or are they just a point scoring, politically peice of Crap. I say the latter. If I was PNE I would be seeking legal advice on the issue and hitting the LEP for 6. This Non-story, could damage relations between PNE and its fans, because the LEP singled our club out and at a time when PNE needs its Fans.

Have you walked through Toxteth, Brixton, parts of Bradford recently, if you have and you are white then yes you have a lot to put up with. BTW, I have never called anyone nigger or a coon or a paki and if I heard my kids call anyone that they would get a clip round the ear 'ole. However, why is it right for those of different races, e.g. Pakistanies to call each other a paki, or a West Indian to call some one a nigger?

PC isnt bollox,.
But a lot of it is
PC going over the top is bollox, positive discrimination is bollox,
a lot of the discrimination is against the English white person, companies have to have a certain number of ethnic minorities working for them, why? If they are the best person for the job give it to them but if they are not give it to whoever is even if he is English and white. I know someone who had all the qualifications and experience for a responcible possition but was looked over and the job was given to a member of the ethnic minorities who did not have the same level of qualifications or experience because that local authority had not reached their quota. Also, Doncaster police station is at the edge of an area called Hyde Park which was where the majority of Asian families lived on Doncaster at the time. When my father was a police inspector there, in the early 1980's the police authority had another front counter set up for the Aisans so if they came in to the station for whatever reason they would be seen first even if I or you had been waiting for a while to be seen they would still be seen before us even if they came in 20 minutes after us.

I agree with you.

as i alluded to before some may not find it offensive. by implication others [imho many] do and they are not coming out with pc crap. many can not grasp why pakistanies find a certain other phrase insulting but they do-and again they are not coming out with pc crap. if i called certain people on here finian followed being born out of wedlock they would be up arms.

Thanks for explaining what you meant and I agree with you.
