This has to be the worst football program ever to be broadcast, saturday night was the final straw for me.
I understand all clubs cannot have a ten minute slot but surely the highlights have to show major match changing decisions, such as callums alleged hand ball ?
Also I don't care about mavis from Middleton texting in about the price of pies at oldham ! And when / where did Steve "mr personality" claridge win that job interview, presume the other candidates where the chuckle brothers and the cast of rainbow ?
This is a rant agreed but you can as I have go on the BBC website and in true British style write a letter of complaint!

You get longer highlights than the ITV show. However, I'm not a fan of the format. They should have just done it like Match of the Day.

But at least if you miss it all you have to do is press the red button and you can watch it up until mid day Sunday, after that it's on bbci all week, with itv you had to wait until Tuesday to see it.

I can see were you guys are coming from, but I don't mind it all that much as it's still football & it's better than watching most of the crap that's on T.V at present.

The lad that introduces it is ok, he was very good on Football Focus. But why they need a bimbo to read E-mails and that dick Steve Claridge is beyond me.

It was never going to be possible for the program to be anything like MotD - on any one day the Football League Show has to compress between 34 and 36 matches worth into its slot, whereas MotD, at worst, focuses on 8 (and usually closer to 6). The problems with it go way beyond the highlights, as far as I'm concerned. They have gone for the token woman who adds nothing to the program, they have picked a dull, boring individual to host the show who seems to know very little about the content he is dealing with. Then they've chosen to accompany him with the equally dull Steve Claridge who, adding to the bargain, is also not very football-wise. When you consider also that they are factually incorrect (I can assure you that Nottingham Forest and Derby have encountered each other many more times than 22, even if you are excluding Premiership encounters from the affair), are prone to get players names wrong, you have the makings of a very poor show. When they are compressing so much into so little time, someone has to be disappointed, but the quality of the analysis, the broadcast time and the general 'echoey' feeling leaves a lot to be desired.

I would also add that I feel the BBC should have gone with the mantra 'by fans, for fans' and maybe got somebody in to host the show who supported a lower league club and had a very wide and perhaps even eccentric interest in football, to bring some life and culture to the show. It's possible that the current host fulfills a number of these criteria already, but he doesn't seem to know a lot about what he is talking about, and even if he did he looks like a prototype BBC host fresh out of the factory. As for Steve Claridge, no thank you. I would personally like to see a guest manager going over the action each week to give us some sort of quality analysis. I'm sure there are enough of a variety of sides playing in London any one week to be able to pick somebody worth having (though I am being presumptuous in assuming it is filmed in London). Anyway, a long way to go. The internet highlights are pretty damn good, in fairness to the Beeb.

Did we need another thread on a subject that has been covered in more than one already since the start of the season..........

Thanks for pointing out the forum rules

I will look forward to your valued contributions in future to the forum - I was not aware things could not be discussed more than once or free speech was banned

They even said that Bramhall Lane was the oldest ground in Britain ....

which again technically it is, it has been used as a sports ground since the 1850's, way before Deepdale started being used as a ground. Sheff U didn't start playing there till 1889 though is the difference

I don't know about that, Andy Townsend is a good candidate for that one.

At least his enthusiasm doesn't send you to sleep before the game like SC does.

I respect his opinion alot more as he did play most of his footy at a higher level including playing regularly for RoI, and he learnt from the best (Big Ron)😱
