Why cant we find investment?

Why cant we find investment?

Issue dividends.🙂

Fair enough...you, unlike some who spout on here, appear to know something about company finances. Isn't paying dividends virtually unheard of in football though? Could it not be argued anyway that people who have bought shares deserve some return on their money? And presumably the level of dividend would have to be approved at the AGM.

I have no idea if other football clubs pay dividends. A company can normally only pay dividends if it is making profit.

Dividend payments do have be approved by shareholders.

I very much doubt any club has every paid out either, I'm sure if any club has made a profit, that the shareholders would agree to reinvest the cash anyway.

There is more chance of our shareholders having to pay hemmings rather than the club paying us 🙄

Lets be honest we are not going to get a buyer, we have been talking and talking about it but it will never happen. With shareholders like ours we will never got off the stock market.

In my view, it's the geography of Preston that could be the problem for serious investors. Lanc's has 16 league clubs with 8 of them in the Premier League. The North West as a whole has to many teams competing for supporters. Add to that the fact that Preston itself has to many football supporters who follow the trophy teams ( Wonder how many City fans have suddenly come out of the woodwork? ) So when you look at PNE you have to look at the competition. It's serious isn't it? If you invest in a club, then you have to look at the current gates & potential gates should the club become more successful. Would PNE get a full house every week in the Prem'? Would the fans new or old pay £35-40 to watch a game? If it were all about making money from a club like PNE, then you probably wouldn't make any. That means PNE would be a bad investment.

I would guess that some non-quoted clubs probably have paid dividends at some stage.

I'm not suggesting PNE pay dividends. It only came up in response to how DS etc. could pay themselves bonuses.

it beggered belief when the group that invested money in notts county, did just that. why?

where they supporters of the team? no

a good investment in the short term? no

a good investment in the long term? a hell of a gamble.

a good club with a ready finished ground, a team half decent and potential to repay with a large support background? no

SO WHAT IS IT THAT PUTS PEOPLE OFF PNE?

we have a decent finished ground.
a team not far away.
few debts in this day and age.
we own the lease for the ground and land around it for a long time.
we own the land for the training ground
we have the support of 11000+ hardy souls(after the glory hunters have drifted off), but have a larger silent bunch who prefer bigger games.

I have got to admit roofer, it has me baffled too. Your comparison is spot on. Money investers are not fools generally speaking. So what has attracted them to Notts County and not PNE? Be damned if I know!😕

because they can get into Notts County on the cheap. To buy our shreas and invest in the club would probbaly cost betwen 30 and 40 million quid and there is no gaurntee we can push on from were we are at now. Notts count has got a good ground and it if you want to call it this they are a bit of a sleeping ginat. Its like buying a small corner shop which you know you are getting on the cheap but there is huge potential to get your money back or even get it back with interest. Its a bit like we were in 1996.

Thats just my take on it

Sleeping Giant, more like a passed out midget.

They have a history yes, but nothing compared to our history.

On what have you based your figures on Steve? We have quite a strong squad, and a good manager and are already competing at the top end of the CCC.

Surely talks have taken place with Guild Ventures with regards to outside investment. I would assume that they would be happy for any money coming in to be spent on the team/wages and they would be prepared to wait to get there 10 million back, after all unless there was a complete take over, or promotion their chances of getting that cash back are zero.

I would think with the team we already have we would only need to spend 5 or 6 million to get out of our league.

I will ask you again, as you never answer, how long can PNE sustain the level of current debt with a ever increasing wages bill, without more investment?

Don't waste your breath pal, Surf is on his own little PNE planet.

The guy is a fucking fruitcake.

They told the money-men they were a club in the lower leagues with a name beginning with "N" who play in black-and-white stripes and are nicknamed "The Magpies".

Then showed them a picture of Kevin Keegan and ran back to the airport with the cheque before the new owners realised the mistake...

If I had the money, then PNE would be the last place I would want to put money into. I would have read on many occasions that Preston is only a small club that the directors are happy with the expenses they get and the service charges that are paid to the |Company that they own that the, club cannot afford decent wages or buy good players in fact I cannot recall any messages comming out of Preston that would spur me on to invest, why should I when I am under the immpresion that even if I did invest the board would still be in charge and hold the self inflicted opinions and final says, no I would not invest in a club like ours. Preston needs to take a good look at itself lets show that we are and we want to move on we all not only want to dream of moving on but need to show that we intend to move on it's not only about money it's about ambition or intention or even a dream that we all are made to realise can come true, we had that dream before when we had Brian Gray he took us to the next step and we did dream and our hearts where full of ambition and hope, Yes Derek can only do as he can and as the ability he has but looking at what comes out of Preston it clearly shows he is out of his ability to get any further but will carry on because he is happy with his worth. and that does not enthroll me in the least to part with a large investment.Derek it is false economy to think we can carry on without a CEO who can give off the opinion to others of our intentions, It has proved it by now so let's see someone else come in with bright new idea's to take on board before it's too late someone who will look for the investment we need😱

But Notts County is not going to be cheap. They need an investment to get them promoted to Div 1, then further investment to consolidate and eventual promotion to CCC. Then further investment to consolidate again ... all that just to catch up to where we are already! PNE just need that one final big investment and we are likely to be in the Prem. Everything is in place except for that one final investment. I put it to you surf, that what is needed in terms of £s to get PNE to the Prem is far less than what is needed in £s to get Notts County there. Initial take over cost may be cheaper at Notts County but the ultimate goal of Prem football would be cheaper for investors at PNE. (And secure a quicker return on that investment!!!!!).😎

There is an alternative method of de-listing which is sometimes easier- a reverse takeover. In simple terms a new Ltd takes over the plc using a share swap arrangement.

I as a shareholder wouldn't have a problem with delisting. In our current financial position the shares are virtually worthless (debts are greater than assets and still losing money).

If DS seriously thinks delisting is an issue why doesn't he put it to the vote at the next AGM. Personally I don't think being a quoted company makes much difference if a serious investor wanted to takeover.

Other clubs do seem to do more to attract investment than PNE, eg. Ridsdale is currently in Malaysia seeking investment for Cardiff.

Beware any football-related business model that has Peter Ridsdale anywhere near it.

Cheers

thats a bit personel mate why does it always end up getting personel on here?.

Just excuse me PSG why i let myself down a minute before i ans or try and ans your question;

Whats your problem pal you £ucking prick, try saying that to me face you nob head; there you go pal down to your level now!.

Anyway PSG i didn't know you had asked me that question personally but i will ahve a go at answering it.

As i see nothing changed from when time began. We have always been in debt and always will be? We punch above our weight big time. At best we are a bottom half championship club. Yet our club as done everything it can to give us our dream and as a result we now pay out more in wages than we have evr done. We reached the play offs last season an incredible achievement we have put both wallace and ledge on the biggest wages this club as ever paid out in its history yet our season ticket sales don't cover our players wages for three months. So all we can do is sale a player when we feel weve got the right offer for them. Its as simple as that. Nugents sale as probabaly kept this club going for the last two years. So you don't have to become sherlock Holmes to work out that Sean St ledger will eevntually go. We don't want to sell him because we put him on top wages last season in trying to keep him and with abit of luck it could ahve paid off as we were only a couple of wins of making the premership. So there you go we can't sustain this amount of debt thats why we have to sell. But nothing changed we have always had to do that. Saying all that it makes it even more remarkable the amount of sucsess we've had over the years. Two champioship play off finals, three semi finals. Derek should take great crdit for giving every manager we've had the players to make these paly off finals and if our managers haden't blown it on the day we would be hailing him as the messiah by now. I hope that helps but don't forget im only afan like you and thats just my opinion

Cheers for your answer Surf, we all have different views, it would be bloody boring world if we all thought the same.

You are spot on about Nugent, but I feel it was actually the sale of Jonny Macken that saved us, as we did not have the time to spend the ITV money before they went bust.

It is very sad that we will have to sell the Saint, but unless we are on the verge of promotion this will happen like you say.

What worries me though, is what happens when we don't find the next Nugent or St Ledger, if we have no-one to sell we are knackered.

Like I keep saying DS is doing his best, but some help from a CEO can not do any harm can it? New Ideas etc?

I agree with Surf's comments, the club is well run; attaining and maintaining our present position has been, from a management perspective, quite an achievement. I have posted in the past though, that in my opinion, the present financial position is not sustainable. Voldemort regularly makes the point that we are not bringing in players that will be tradable in the future. I don't see an easy way out of this unless we get lucky and get promoted through the play offs, as Burnley did. We are not an attractive proposition for an investor because we are already over valued (ie 'punching above our weight'), bringing in a CEO or alternative management would not change that. The final option is an emotional investor, a Jack Walker figure, the only prospect I know of is Trevor Hemmings and he is not interested. We all have to accept it is his choice, and thank him for what he has done so far.

If we get in a good position there is an outside chance that the present investors would take a risk and 'bet the ranch' on success, but it would be a risk for them, and how many of us would take it with our own money ?

Nobody is a fault here, I don't think the club could be better run, the odds are against us, that is what supporting your own town team is about. I love it.
