This is where the problem lies. We haven't got anyone who can get a hold of the game, no one in the midfield that can tackle or win a header. Instead we have Chaplow and Carter who can't tackle, can't head a ball, incredibly light weight.

It's no wonder the defence can't keep a clean sheet as they've no protection. We badly miss Mckenna, but I was hoping we could of moved on from there. Shumi i'm not writing off but has a lot to prove.

New midfielders please, oh wait....we are skint 🙂

We actually do miss Mckenna, I didn't think I'd ever say that.

Absolutely right. If I were Irvine, Chaplow would never play for the club again. He can't tackle, can't shoot and once something goes wrong for him he goes to pieces. I'm sure Irvine recognises the problem from the way he continually rotates the 3 centre midfielders trying to get the best combination. With the 3 we have, there isn't a best combination I'm afraid. As you say, we have no money but surely it's worth trying Sedgwick or Davidson(when fit-if ever) or Jones in there, or even Nolan? They could do no worse, that's for sure.

Carter had an absolutely shocking match today, Shumi played pretty well I thought, looked much more comfortable and involved. Chaplow improved second half, but can't believe that sitter...

It's like trying to find the combination for a lock that doesn't open.

Chaplow is too slow on the ball and Carter is a passenger at the best of times.

Once again a very poor performance from Chaplow and Carter.
They just don't seem to want to put themselves into the thick of it.
WBA stitched us up like a kipper on those two.

we have 3 central midfield players fit and thats it. we have no money to spend. irvines hands are tied, the crowds are not turning up, we are skint. we have to make do. like it or lump it.

we are so far off the pace in midfield its frightening, but we are not in panic mode yet so stop panicing.

we didnt win today because chaplow missed the golden chance, but thats football for you.

Both Chaplow and Carter totally lack the mental toughness to succeed at this level. Neither really wants to win the ball and there lies the problem.

We actually need 2 new midfielders despite popular opinion that one will do.

i cant believe nick carle was on the bench again for palace he's got quality that lad and would be a good addition for us, but im getting my hopes up 🙁

for the wages those 2 earn (carter and chaplow) then their performances are nothing short of an absolute disgrace...carter...well The way he plods around without even attempting to look interested beggars belief....as for chaplow I now see why the west brom fans turned on him........the quicker he leaves the better for me.....give barton or another kid a chance at least they would be hungry and try for once....how bad could they be

+1. Totally agree flip. Carter and Chaplow are a disgrace.

We have no pace or creativity, we also dont have a ball winner who can then put his foot on the ball and create goal scoring chances, we do not have a midfield general.
How ever dont think we have any cash to address this in January so youth is probably our best option, but dont know what we have in the reserves? We have not taken up our full quarter of substitutes on a number of occasions, if we had players to come through surely it would give them good experience just to be involved with the 1st team if only as a sub ?

I still disagree. We miss having a midfielder who is better than Mckenna and the 2 toss pieces we started with in central midfield today.

McKenna was frustrating but he was still our most creative midfielder which is what we lacking.

Carter & Chaplow don't have a creative bone in their body.

I actually thought Chaplow started okay in the first half. But as soon as he took that shocking corner, he was abysmal for the rest of the half. Second half he was a bit better, but he should have done so much better with the chance that he had and that really would have won us the game. Our centre midfield is a major area we need to improve, AI knows this. But his hands are tied even though we are receiving 4.5 million for St Ledger. Well done Derek. I think we will finish about 12th in league, Season Ticket sales will drop, and next year we might have a serious problem. Changes are massively needed and quick.

mckenna was a lot of things....creative wasnt one of them

You're kidding right?

Maybe towards the end of his North End career he wasn't at his most crestive but certianly before that he was our best passer of the ball by miles IMHO.
