I don't mind admitting that I was treated for depression at the start of this year - it hit me like a train.
Literally nobody knew how I was feeling.

I was diagnosed with high-functioning depression, whereby I behaved as though nothing was wrong, but in my mind I was plotting my exit. I had made my mind up, but I was lucky and got a phone call from the right person at exactly the right time - I could have very easily not answered it and I wouldn't be here now.

The frightening thing is, I would never have thought depression would hit me like that - I'm a generally positive and optimistic person and thought I could cope with anything. But you don't choose to be depressed, you have no control of when it might hit you and it's not something you can just shake yourself out of.

I would urge anyone reading this who is struggling to seek help - there is lots available and it's not a sign of weakness, it's a show of strength that you won't let it beat you.

I went insane once, during a very bad period/divorce got sent to prison for assaulting policemen, breaking rules, smashing up police cells and being sent to solitary confinement for my stay in HMP, lost my business and growled at prison officers.

I actually didn't know what the fuck was happening, it took me a long time to get over the temporary, depression, disorientation, and fear of everyone.

I did recover rapidly but I will never forget that period when I was totally fucked.

Sorry to hear that Gordon.

Good luck going forwards.

Why does it take guts to say when you have mental health problems? Why is it given such low priority in our health care system? I’m no medical expert but, even I can see that if we started looking after mental health issues then physical problems would decline to manageable very quickly. Education on mental health should start in schools with removing the stigma would be a good starting point. Teach kids that not just sticks and stones will break bones but names WILL hurt too!

Gordon, Outreacher, Nobber I am so happy you are all well at the moment. I’m glad Gordon got help at just the right time and I’m glad we have this sub section of the forum. We are all PNEFC supporters and I hope that can extend to support for each other.
