merging or locking?

J

jaymo

Im not doing this to have a go, I jsut wondered why that third thread abotu the manager of the month was locked as opposed to merged with the previously merged thread.

Seeing as you merged one together anyway I just wonder why.

Also, do you have your own guidelines as to what is merged/locked/deleted or do the mods use their own individual discretion.

if you dont have a set of guidelines, maybe you should set one up to try and get rid of any inconsistencies, as well as possibly cutting out stick mods get for it. i.e. people are aware why things are done.

I have been in the middle of other things so i locked it as a temporary measure. I will be merging shortly.

The difficult thing is, whether we merge or dont merge, there will alway be some people who don't agree. We just cant win sometimes.😱

Just read the initial post and realised this is completely off-topic, but still.

To be honest, a "latest ticket news" post or something at the top of the forum would be good (for next season). Like a self-updated ticket news, something like this:

Sheffield United - 11th May
Allocation: 2969, on sale 7th May to Season Ticket Holders.

Healey @ 5:01 pm:
Anyone any idea to how many away tickets we've sold?

Brownie @ 4:34 pm:
Over 2,000 sold

Bayside @ 3:35 pm:
1,000 tickets left. No queue.

-------------------------------------------------------

People post on the thread, and a mod merges it into the original, deleteing the post in the process. Saves (a very small) amount of forum size by deleting the post, and also makes it easier to look at one post than a whole 20 page thread or whatever. Sorta like Social Networking sites, but not at the same time.

very true bayside. If we make the prem, I would hope a few things on the forum would change. It's a pretty decent idea you have there.

I have actually just brought up the matter of all the ticket threads with the rest of the mod team to work out the best way forward.

I imagine it will get even worse when we secure a place in the final! 😎

Jimmy, some good points there.

Aye obviously its pointless for this weeks game, but if we get to Wembley or the Premier League - or even stay in the Championship next season it'd be a good way of informing people of ticket news and sales like, instead of having to trawl through threads etc to find out news.

Next time I have a brainwave, I'll stick it on here. They dont happen that often though 😉

Just added to the original post by myself, Healey just put @ 5:01pm 'Anyone any ideas to how many away tickets sold?'

Therefore a thread for away games or BIG home games (i.e Blackpool/Burnley/Newcastle if in Championship) made a sticky on the PNE discussions would solve it, dink dank doo.

I see the mod team a bit like refs. Theres inconsisitencies across the board because different mods do different stuff, make different judgement calls in different moods etc etc. and to be fair, the few times ive questioned a decision, common snese has prevailed.

I just thought it a bit odd considering there was already a merged thread on the subject to lock the other and not merge. If you already planned to merge, then fair play.

I still think if you dont have guidelines about when to merge/lock/delete it might be a decent idea to get some up. That way everyone can see whats going to happen. Would probably cut out a few of these threads.

Mods have hard jobs. Especially on a forum this size and fluid.

Unfortunately they do let themselves down by not being strong enough at times. The insulting that goes on at times should be acted upon. If not, the forum ends up with less people posting and just bickering and personal abuse in each thread.

Arguments yes, abuse no.

sometimes abuse is totally justified though.

the fact is there are some utter cunts on this forum, and they should be told.
