This 3 5 2/5 3 2/3 4 3 is quite simply a load of bollocks. If we are honest, we were very lucky to draw against Leicester and Boro, but we were found out today. I didn't hear us create many, if any, chances in open play. It really isn't good enough, we need wins to get out of this mess. We have been very lucky that other results went our way. We have to win on Saturday. If we don't our season is over.
Wrong team selection, wrong formation
And four more yellow cards doesn't help, norky. The way we are accumulating them at the moment means there will be a reckoning towards the end of the season, which will weaken us even more and make matters worse, if that is possible!

I am now officially against Phil Brown...I have not been happy with his team selections but we have managed 2 draws...but there is no excuse for this team selection...new manager or not this was a woefull inept perfrormance by a so called experienced manager He will have to do a lot to win me over...I think he is right when he says the players are good the problem is you have to have a manager who

I don't know what it is about PNE, we can only seem to play one system and that is 4-4-2 or systems closely based on that formation (such as the one Moyes used with his 3 central midfielders and one winger).
I think the advantage of 4-4-2 is that it is a system that players know, it takes the uncertainty away. Wingers are given the license to create, backed up by overlapping full backs and then the wingers help the full backs when the team is looking to provide a solid defensive formation.
I just don't like the look of this 3-4-3/3-5-2 system and inevitably Brown has to change things within 20 minutes of the match, as we are over-run in midfield areas – something has to click that the players just can't adapt in the short space of time he has to get results.
Browny, please stick to 4-4-2 – with a solid back four. Get a true left back in with Jones and McCormack competing for the right back berth with a central pairing of Cort and Brown (who have formed the strongest pairing this season), with St Ledger adding competition.
We now have Ashbee in to play the holding midfield role, which gives more licence for the wingers to get forward and for someone like Coutts or Barton to support a front pairing of Hume and Ellington/Johnson.
Keep it simple, keep the balance in the team and give your players a chance. Giving them confidence is all well and good, yet if they are playing a foreign system and one that is leaving them wide open in key areas and leaving a goalkeeper overworked, then that work on confidence bulding is ultimately fruitless. We are getting away with narrow deficits or draws and in truth we could just as easily have suffered 3 heavy defeats and that won't have gone un-noticed from the players when they self analyse the way a match has gone – unless they are totally in denial and their subconcious mind has been drilled to believe they are playing Champions League football, with the style and finesse of a Barcelona team.
Having said that, the challenge faced by Brown and Horton was a near impossibility, when they joined, and the formation we are currently playing is making that challenge a definite impossibility – unfortunately.

I'm sure a win against Bristol will change a few people's mind's. I mean come on we have a new manager and a few new players. It will take a few games for the creases to get ironed out, we are not down yet!

I find it funny when people blame formations of a team. If we had played 442 from the start and lost people would be moaning about the manager being rigid with his tactics. It's players and luck that wins games and whilst I'm not sure about the team I'm certain we have had little luck.

No one can look at these players and seriously state yes we have brought in real quality. It's yet another

I would probably agree with the heading but let's try and stay positive.
That may be difficult for a lot of you, but after reading so much negativity on here tonight, I decided to have a look on our nearest rivals forums and fans from Sheff Utd, Bristol City, Scunthorpe and Derby all believe they are going to be relegated. Only 3 teams get relagated, so it's all to play for. IF we beat Bristol City on saturday, the league table may look a bit healthier.
Let's try and stay positive..........it would appear we're not the only set of supporters suffering from depression.
