So how should Preston remember the 96 today

So how should Preston remember the 96 today

I believe the root cause of this disaster lies with the fans, not all of them by any means but the hooligan element from all clubs at the time. The police tactics and fencing in stadiums was a reaction to the prevailing culture of violence at matches and specifically incidence's such as Heysel. When will the families of the 39 killed get justice? The 14 Liverpool fans convicted of involuntary manslaughter doesn't really cut it.

Just my thoughts, I'm sort of glad we did nothing. All that has happened so far is that a report has been released. Granted it's a report that means a lot to scousers as it absolves them of blame, but If we did something this weekend would we have to do something else once justice has been done and those who have been found guilty of the cover up are convicted?

On the anniversary of the tragedy, I'd be happy to do something every year, same with the Bradford fire anniversary.

Just thinking
It's clear there are numerous tragedies football related
Wouldn't it be a good idea to dedicate one date per year to acknowledge remembrance ?

We, as a club have one for ourselves its Gentry day the loss of each and every North End fan is tragic.. Maybe each club should adopt something unique to themselves for each anniversary of their tragedies.

Thanks Bint
So easy to lose sight of the families who lost loved ones
Me - I always think of the parents of the Hicks girls
When posing the question of blame towards the fans then I wonder how their decent and law abiding parents would react ?

Trevor Hicks' story is just so upsetting. He lost both his daughter an eventually his wife who had a breakdown and they ended up divorcing from the stress.

As for your latter point, I've no idea, I would expect they were disgusted hence the campaign for justice for so long.

I used to hold the opinion that the scousers were in someway to blame but after reading the report I now believe the cause to be laid at the feet of South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield Wed FC and the FA.

Same here. As parents we cannot even begin to imagine what these families have been through.

I admit that I half expected some blame to be directed towards the supporters as it was an obvious conclusion to make. Having read the whole report I now find it staggering that some can continue to argue they were at fault.

Regrettably, some people will never allow facts to stand in the way of prejudiced views. The report is crystal clear: the fault does not lie with the Liverpool fans. Attempting to perpetuate the myth that it was otherwise is ridiculous.

One of them things isn't it. From various eye witness reports, from people that were there, there was trouble outside the ground. BUt like I said, I'd fully expect "trouble" given the circumstances, people were being crushed outside...sadly, the actions of an inexperienced, inept match commander relieved the trouble from one area, and directed it straight to another.

The report also highlights the lack of communication between SWFC and the SYP following the previous years issues and as for the FA ignoring the fact there was no valid safety certificate...I still fail to understand why they are not being held accountable either?

Good shout Joan.

& also to those who stated 'as if it matters to Liverpool what we do anyway' it obviously mattered enough to them to make there official website.

It may have nothing to do with PNE-FC in name, but I honestly would like to think that they Footballing Community as a whole would unite...and a lot of them did.

Napoli fans apparently.
