Positives:

  • Garner looks a real nuisance and hand full.
  • We played one of the divisions "Top Sides" on form and out played them for most parts of the game possession wise.
  • Foster looks a real find.
  • Holmes is getting better the number of games he gets under his belt.
  • Welsh is a real find, tenacious hard working and ran that midfield last night.

Westley got a lot of things right last night in the first half they did break through 1 or 2 times but all teams will do that, but apart from that we were very comfortable controlling a lot of possession. There were some real ferocious tackles flying in last night, Welsh is an animal I would not like to go into a 50/50 challenge with him, he ran the midfield for most parts and cleaned up nicely he should be our captain not Mousinho. Garner seems to be a good signing a right little nuisance and has a good shot on him, he should have had a penalty last night but we all know we don't get the decisions.

Coventry play a diamond formation with the ethos of keeping possession (Adam Barton direct quote) but we dominated that part last night we just lacked the cutting edge, which is understandable with a new partnership being formed between Beavon and Garner.

Negatives:

  • We are weak at RB, King can do a job but he gets caught out positionally too much.
  • We need a ball playing CB and the injury to the sheriff was unlucky.
  • Simmonsen is nothing more than a back-up keeper, Stuckmann should be between the sticks if he is fit.
  • It is clear to see how much we miss Laird and Keane.
  • Byrom is awful, you play him or Wroe not both in the same side.
  • The service to our front 2 is poor.

Procter for Beavon was a poor substitution I would have brought Beardsley on in the hope that he could hold up the ball. Westley needs to stop playing his Stevenage favourites apart from Laird, Byrom is not good enough I would have either started with Jeff or re-arranged the formation so that Byrom doesn't have to play on the right. Movement, passing and general play going forward has to improve as we do have some very good players for this division, maybe if Westley was to go then someone would benefit from his good signings.

Stuckmann between the sticks all day please Westley, better shot stopper, penalty penalty saver and is more commanding of his area. We need a RB desperately as King is only good enough for cover, I would prefer King to be played further up the pitch.

Summary - Do not sack GW

We were incredibly unlucky last night and the reason why we lost it in the last 2 minutes wasn't Westleys fault no manager can prepare tactically for Goalkeeping mistakes or bad refereeing decisions.

I can back Westley because he realises when he has made a poor signing Amoo and Co and then he gets them out the door and gets a better replacement in Garner. Yes we are turning over a lot of playing staff but we are slowly improving the squad maybe PR will bow to pressure and sack GW but he can be proud of what he achieved at PNE in regards to shipping out the shakers and getting in some good players. Someone may benefit from Westley's work in the future but it was an appointment that was necessary to stop the club declining so rapidly. Don't get me wrong I wanted him out after the Doncaster game because that was so poor but I can take some real positives from the game last night, hopefully we will play well this weekend against Walsall and get a result. COYW

Note - Did you all see how quickly the crowd turned on Coventry when things didnt got there way or they made a mistake last night? It completely destroyed there confidence and we got control of the game. THATS WHAT HAPPENS AT DEEPDALE, the crowd have a huge effect on the game and confidence so people need to stop complaining and just support the team.

Excellent opening post. Anyone who denies we were the better side last night are deluded. Granted, a blind man can see we haven`t got the cutting edge to put teams to bed. Turn your short memories back to the Fergie / Brown era`s. We couldn`t get the bloody ball , about 40 % possesion , on a good day ! This is better , nothing like the finished article , but without a doubt , better.

What shone out for me is that we have two good midfielders but we need a speedy floating midfielder with an ability to play balls to the two strikers, someone who can take the fight to the opposition as opposed to someone to stop the opposition. I believe if we could get some genuine attacking midfielder it would transform our team.

Yes, Monakana isn't the finished article he is too inconsistent but in a 2-3 years he will be a cracking player.

Exactly.

This is better nothing like the finished article we are just too inpatient maybe another summer under GW's belt and we might have a really good squad next season with depth, thats what we are missing.

No I'm just saying we don't help with our negative attitude at Deepdale when we should be encouraging the players.

Tell you what if Westley agrees to stop negative tactics I.e. even at home go for a draw and hope for a lucky goal so that we win, maybe the fans will not need to be negative either because we might actually win more and be less tripe to watch.

I was disappointed at how Coventry were better than us at closing down space. I was shocked that they looked slightly stronger in the tackle.

I was really pleased at how good we were at knocking the ball around... less so in that it rarely led to us creating space.

I think Westley had positive tactics... until we when in front. Then the negative substitution sending a signal to our players, and to theirs. For example, in the 92nd minute.... they had a throw in by their corner flag. We just trotted back and let them throw it to their keeper instead of hounding them to keep them in their own half. Within seconds, they scored.

I fail to understand how we play the front three.... with Holmes playing so much down the middle, and when on the wing, he was mainly on the right with Monakana on the left.

For the small part of the game, where Westley actually played those two on the 'correct' wings, we looked seriously dangerous... particularly Holmes whipping some crosses in.

King is undoubtedly not a right back.

Garner... I'll give him latitude. He did OK.

Garner and Beavon partnership? Again I'll give them quite a lot of time to develop.... but at first view, they look too similar to one another.

Shame football isn't decided on who has the majority of possession. Yes we passed the ball in triangles, but that was it, apart from a handful of corners, 2 deflected goals what else did this possession give us.

I haven't seen much lately in addressing our attacking frailties. We have 2 strikers that supposedly have the ability to score goes, now we need to get them the ball with a shooting chance. Until we can find that defence splitting pass or that quality cross regularly, we aren't going to get much better.

That can be down to any number of things, not just the tactics. Refereeing decisions and injuries to name 2.

Behave yooooouuuuuuurrrrrseeeeellllllfffff

Read the post directly above yours from a usually positive supporter to confirm you are talking very wet indeed.

Agree with everything the OP said. If we have no service to the frontmen we have no chance of scoring. Our strikers are having to come out of position to collect the ball rather than having the played into them and we don't threaten for any of the crosses at all. As soon as we get that quality in our side we will start scoring again and killing games off. Untill then we are going nowhere other than down the table because we throw away so many points when we should have killed the game off. But we need to back the lads and not boo them on every mistake. We can have all the possession we want but if you don't have that link up play or service then your not going to score, laird and keane often used to do this for us

First half we were abysmal when it came to getting the ball to the front men, thats why we had no chances. Second half we had a real go Beavon got a goal, Garner got fouled hundreds of times and we had some shots blocked. Shame it takes us until the second half to wake up.

Don't you think some of that is down to the even more negative tactics from the opposition?

We have been unlucky in home matches with
injuries
decisions
results

We have tried to play, at times we look good, just like last night we look good on the ball we just miss that final 3rd play. Maybe Garner will help solve that piece of the puzzle.

Rons right we don't help ourselves at home we put more pressure on and the twats booing need a right good kicking.
