Crowd of 8474 yesterday

Crowd of 8474 yesterday

Exactly fella (to Wickerbasket), both Manchester CITY and Norwich CITY were relegated (amongst others like Forest and Leicester) to this League and maintained their crowds yet this "CITY" is totaly apathetic. The aforementioned have had more success in recent times prior to relegation so therefore, there should have been more uproar and discontent amongst their support but guess what?, they carried on supporting their team and all are now in a stronger position in a higher, sometimes to 2 division league. Meanwhile, us lot...

In truth, this CITY does not deserve a club.

Who appointed you and JD to say who deserves what? Bearing in mind you both accept that you have let your club down by your own admissions.

Have I let my club down?

Where?

Season ticket since 1981 bar about 4 years working match day and non match days for near enough ziltch, on and off the pitch in the mid 80s, for the club.

You have said you don't deserve a club.

I said that this CITY, as in those who don't attend bar the odd big game if your read my post as it was meant, don't deserve a club.

You sound in a bad mood today J.D for gods sake chill out. 😉

No bad mood from me cha, just pointing out that Preston is full of PWs including this very own MB within our own City.

Dear me, you just don't get it. You stay full of apathy then I would rather aspire to something more for the club. I am not angry at all, just sad at people caring so little.

If I was full of apathy - you do understand what it means? - then I would not be attending Deepdale and would be full of irrelevant excuses and b) I do care hence my postings today on the very subject.

This City, sorry Town, is a fucking joke and always has been since I started attending in 1978 with regards it's support and it's attendences.

We are a slightly bigger version of Crewe or similar due to the lack of support and apathy within the town.

Stop being in denial.

To Tutu, you say, with all good intentions, that we are a medium sized club? Really?

Are we as big as say, Crystal Palace or Sheffield United whom I both class as medium sized clubs?

We will always be small as both a club and City with the support we have, the owner we have and crucially, having not been mentioned yet within this thread, the council we have. Do they still own the ground?

Slag me all you wish. I speak nothing but the truth from my heart.

The ground is on a 99 year lease owned by PNE

Oh, I see exactly where you are coming from JD, exactly where.

This is all true. Preston public does not back its team. Which is why we bounce between Div 2 to Div 4. Why should Hemmings back the great white hope when the town is so quick to turn it's back when the going gets tough?

In all honesty people are voting with their feet & you can't blame them for that. Poor performances, lack of entertainment & times being tough financially all have an impact.

As someone who has held a ST longer than I care to remember going to Deepdale is more of a chore these days rather than something you really look forward to.

As said previously though if I wasn't there I'd just be glued to SSN or texting someone who was there.

Attendances are down though in just about every club outside the prem but hey don't let that get in the way of your agenda.

Wahey...That fuckin word again. It should be banned from this forum or someone should develop a bit of software that makes anyone's keyboard explode when they type it.

we went down a level, had a shit season, kept hold of a manager who had won only 3 games in half a season and then put the prices up because the then current prices, and i quote, "devalued the product".

Well fuck me sideways, the product was devalued, we got relegated you absolute morons. Is anyone really surprised attendances are plummeting.

For all the shit that Lyndsay got/gets on this forum, he always had it right about ticketing. Thats why we got near 12k average attendance last season and currently have 9.5k this.

Jesus wept Steve, every bloody excuse under the sun is turning you into Westley Mk11 and this coming from a JCL, we (PNE) are what we are and you will never change the minds of "fans" who only get off on Prem shite football, but our club does little or nothing to market itself to the masses in and around Preston.

We have been fed shit for years by the movers and shakers inside Deepdale, punching above our weight and our financial predicament being the two most used, yet where is an innovotive marketing plan to harness the potential that is within a few miles of our ground, where is anyone who really cares about our club showing the way forward in trying to get more fans into the ground, we make it hard for the pay in the day potential fans by having them standing in bloody lines to buy a ticket as they will not trust turnstyle operators to collect cash and this is just one of the simple things we cannot manage.
There is not marketing effort, there is no contact with lapsed ST holders or the masses who attended play off finals, there is no reward for people who go on week in week out and perhaps introduce new potential supporters, and it goes on and on and on.

We make Deepdale a chore rather that an exciting experience, the concourse catering is crap and expensive with huge lines waiting to be "served", stewards are hardly welcoming, sound systems are broken, seats are covered up, roofs are leaking and after the game is over there is just an expectaton that we will all come back again for the next game, nothing is ever done after a game to try and encourage more to come back or bring along a mate.

Steve, you can look for any excuse and you will find one but if the club did a much better job at entertaining its customers and encouraging new ones then we might just have the budget to play at a higher level, oh and getting rid of Westley and Ridsdale might just help for starters.

A bit like blind faith eh?

That's two words, but yeah, they should cause exploding keyboards as well. In terms of pro Westley or not, I make no apologies for sitting firmly in the "he must be sacked" bracket. I can't abide what he has done and continues to do to the image of this fine club.

I went on yesterday on my own. I rang 4 other people to ask if they fancied going on, (all blokes who have been supporters like myself for more than 40 years), To a man, the reply was the same. "Not paying to watch whilst Westley is Manager".

Like I have said in other threads, I did enjoy the match yesterday, but i felt the performance in the 2nd half was in spite of westley rather than due to him.

Jesus,a post from your good self that by enlarge makes good reading and makes good points without calling everyone a c...t. I'm impressed (nearly)

Billy, I totally agree with you Re pay on the day and the queues on matchday for tickets.

As for me being Westley MK II... lol.

I have had this stance on the apathy in and around Preston for years, I was going on during the times of gates of 2,500 - 3,500 and I held the same views back then so it is nothing new. Preston and it's support is a joke, we ridiculed Blackpool for their 6,600 average at this level yet we are now only marginally above it. We can't have our cake...

No matter, imo, what the club do, and for the record it seems to me like not a lot is being done but that's for another thread, experience tells me that the PWs will always have some lame excuse to try and justify their decision not to attend Deepdale. It's been the same ever since Woodhouse and Leeming were in charge (before your time and that isn't a dig btw Billy).

Joan, do you think that PNE, in the grand scheme of things, are a big club.

Please provide evidence that relates to reality and does not involve the words "Finney", "Double" or "Invincibles" as they count for nothing today as it stands, grand history as it is. If they counted for anything, then Hemmings would have sold up ages ago to some nostalgic romantic!

If we are talking within the realms of the 92 League Clubs, then I would put us at about 55th - 60th at best given our size, support and financial stability.

Over to you.
http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/england.htm
in the grand shceme of things, id say we were a top 40-45 supported clubs in the country, the only time our average attendance has been 55th-60th in the country with any regularity was around the time of re-election.

As for the merits of an "entertainment" picking up fans, I think you onyl need to look at Arsenal to see how that kind of "brand" can improve support. Under George Graham, a very successful decade for the club, they averaged around 30-35k. Under Wenger and a few years of playing osme of the best football the country has ever seen, they maxed out highbury every season at 40k and grew enough support to max out a new stadium at 60k. There are other examoles but Arsenal off the top of my head are the only side that can boast tangible success with 2 distinct styles of football to make the comparison, others, like swansea, would be skewed by the accompanying rise up the leagues.

Im not suggesting PNE would ever see an uptake like that, thats consigned to the post ww2 period for us, but its obvious a club playing decent football is going to attract more peopel than people playing a more "industrial" game.

This post should be wrapped up very carefully, packaged, stamped and addressed to P. Ridsdale, at Deepdale.

This club has lost its direction so much in recent years. Is it too late?

Good post Billy. One other thing now missing from the concourse is a bookies. I used to love a flutter before the game!

We aren't as big as either of these JD. I would counter that saying we have done fuck all for years. The above mention at some stage got only slightly bigger crowds than us at championship level, they have also both had recent success, having had a stint in the top level. We have been left to rot for decades.

Would you say Fulham, Wigan, Stoke are medium sized clubs? We have had support to better the first two of these when we have been at the same level and a couple of years I'm sure we had more on than Stoke, although they might have had a lot of banning orders at the time.

We are a proud club JD, we have just been let down with false dawn after false dawn. It fucking grinds you down cha. On top of this we have had to endure the lashers and to a lesser extent Burnley having a go at the prem

Just had an odd thought. Dunno if there`s owt in it.

Thing is..these debates about Preston not supporting the club...we were having them in the 70`s. And 80`s. Oh..and 90`s. There`s a kinda pattern developing here....🙂

And through all this time..I`ve noticed a certain depreciation even amongst Nobbers. Is it partly BECAUSE of our fine history?

Does the town see us as permanently `fallen`?
Like the British Empire?

Does the ghost of our illustrious past haunt the present, as a reminder of how crap we are now?
