..........................when I go to log on does my email address now appear in the box instead of my username? I know it's a trivial point and I may have posted this in the wrong place, however, it is a minor irritant which I would rather not have.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's your browser not this site. You will have used your email address as the login/username for another site and browsers nowaday are designed with metatags(or some name I can't remember) and they auto populate thinking this is what you want to use. If you highlight the email address and hit delete it may remove it otherwise you will have to go into your browser settings and play with your "Autofill" settings

Cheers for that. Is it not dangerous from a security point of view to stay logged in, or am I imagining that?
I think it's saved to your cookies and I wouldn't worry about it. But you could change your password to one that you don't use for other sites then stay logged in with peace of mind that if it was unsafe they wouldn't have your password for other sites

You could always consider using a password manager, like www.lastpass.com. Free versions available. It allows you to create huge. nasty passwords, unique for every website, and the beauty is you don't have to remember them. Great for security.

Thing is it isn't that the username or password are a problem. It's just that when logging in to the site, my user name used to automatically pop into the box. For some unknown reason that has now been replaced by my email address popping up in said box. It isn't an erroneous problem, originally I was just curious as to why this had happened.

I have highlighted the email address and pressed the delete button but, it hasn't changed anything so bugger it, I'll just put up with it but thanks for all the advice everyone.

Clear your browser cache & cookies. It's in the browser settings menu somewhere ('delete browsing history' or something along those lines, depending which browser you use). Then close your browser and reboot your machine. Let us know if this fixes it?

Thanks for the advice but you might as well have written it in Chinese for this old git to understand 🤣 it really isn't that big a deal, I'll manage thanks. Cheers all the same.

P.S. I'll get my 14 year old grandson to fettle it 🙂👍

hmmm, ok, I see the problem I am facing here....!! but if your grandson can't fix it, give me a shout and I'll get one of my boys to pop round on their bikes. They're proper little whizzkids!

Plenty of folk on here have plenty of experience in deleting their browsing history. Usually about five minutes before their wives get home.
