Not entirely sure if I'm alone here but I'm feeling very anxious about events going on in our world.
Finding myself thinking "ok lets just get through this pandemic and then we'll be ok again"

Now everything happening at the moment with Russia/Ukraine which I feel guilty about because I'm worrying but there are actual people there suffering.
Even the rumoured PNE takeover is making me anxious too - I'm definitely catastrophising and thinking we'll end up being known as AFC Preston North End in the Moor Park super league when it all goes wrong.

I don't think the world ever will be normal again and thinking about it - before covid was it normal then?

Also I can't even remember when the weather wasn't windy!! Honestly seems to be windy for about 3 months straight or something!

I can confirm walking the dog everyday that it has indeed pissed it down for 3 months solid.
I actually laughed out loud at this.

One of my dogs has decided she's terrified of green bins now so always walks on the road to avoid them on bin day. Not like there's cars on the road!

It is just bloody typical that on the day we get away from all of the Covid restrictions, etc that this has kicked off.

''Are you done with the Pandemic? Yes? Ok, have a new European War then.''

I prefer the good old days when I only had to live through the plot of one movie at a time.

Don't feel like you're alone though OP - my anxiety has been terrible since Covid kicked off and hasn't got better since despite the medication.

Just seems to be impending doom all the time and its horrible - Is this the new normal now? Ergh

Ours has always had a bit of thing about bin bags and similar items like kites. Weird little thing.

When I say dogs they aren't quite proper dogs.
We've got 2 pugs. Got our first 5 years ago and he's a loving, friendly, fat slob that does nothing. Since he was a puppy he's been no trouble whatsoever so we decided to get a second and she's an absolute psychopath that terrorises the house most days..

When we picked her my famous last words were something like 'I like this dog because she seems a little mischievous' 😳

One of the biggest issues these days is that we're virtually connected 24/7 with almost everything going on in the world. And unless we're very selective then the majority of what we consume has a negative slant. Sometimes I think it's best to log off from all electronic gadgets, t.v, internet, even the radio if it gives news updates. Give something else a try. The sun will still come up in the morning. It'll still probably rain at some point during the week but you'll feel a lot better in yourself.

Unfollowing/deleting news companies from my social media and stopping push notifications on my phone was a huge help at the start of Covid.
Felt like a constant bombardment of panic enticing negative news

Sound advice. I stopped watching the news in the morning for the same reason. Not the best way to start the day.

My partner used to have push notifications on her laptop, when watching netflixs she couldn't go ten minutes without stopping to look at some bullshit that had just popped up. Initially she didn't want them disabling as she thought she'd be missing out but once I showed her how to do it she doesn't miss them.

This, literally this.

Looking back on my childhood I only remember the Kosovo War, Diana and Foot & Mouth Disease. Seemed like nothing bad happened, but then as social media and news has got in our faces over the last 10 years it just seems like everything is depressing.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter what we switch off, if idiots doing idiotic things thousands of miles away means petrol, oil or gas goes up in price, we'll all feel it. We already are feeling it.

We just have to look out for each other, including on this forum, and not let people slip through the net, because it's very easy to lose hope these days.

Could you imagine what the coverage would be like if the Bosnian war took place now? Some truly awful things took place then, and whilst it was on the news every day we only heard about it at set times so it was easier to switch off, plus the newspapers were also technically a day behind.

Three years worth of minute by minute news of Sarajevo being sieged, then the rest as you say doesn't get any better.

I do hope this conflict doesn't go on for three years, but who knows.

I'm sure the news companies will have statistics on this somewhere. But I'll bet that horrible/sad news get way more viewers/reader etc than nice news.

It's referred to as news values. Colloquially known as if it bleeds it leads. Gatlung and Ruge wrote about back in the 70's, how certain characteristics of a story made it more newsworthy. Bad news indeed is one of those factors, as is conflict between forces and people.

I'd say it's THE biggest issue.

I have this saying about Sky, both new and sport - First, fast, wrong.

The amount of times they put stuff out but then have to correct it shortly after is staggering. But they got it out first, they're probably hitting some targets somewhere. Their news flashes often come 2 or 3 minutes ahead of anything that comes from the BBC.

I don't know if this applies to anybody else but I'm feeling myself become increasingly nihilistic.

Not a particularly pleasant feeling.

Had to Google the meaning of that.

I think due to Covid and now war its becoming more difficult to be positive all the time.
Also its totally ok to not feel positive all the time!
