Matchday Thread Coventry City v PNE -23/02/24 - KO:7.45PM

I thought having McCann in midfield was a major plus. He is a more disciplined defensive midfielder than Browne in that he tackles well and holds his position whereas Browne wanders all over the pitch.
I know Browne doesn’t like RWB but he did a good job there and provided a great cross for the absolutely brilliant Riis to score with a very rare headed goal.
Our pressing and counterattacking were superb with Whiteman and Frojkaer providing quick and accurate passes for the magnificent Keane and Riis who scared the living daylights out of their defence.
Our defence was excellent and marshalled again by Lindsay who was faultless.
Millar, back on the left, surprisingly had a quiet game by his standard but overall you couldn’t hope to witness a more superb away performance.
It’s great that we now don’t just rely on Millar and him having a quiet game doesn’t stop others benefitting

What a performance!
The best team performance of the season, 2 excellent halves, first very clinical and the second just consolidated.
For me back to proper football, if in doubt get rid at the back, 2 wingers willing to push up and get crosses in, I thought Browne was 1st class!
Pace upfront with Riss chasing everything and Whiteman pushing further up field, what a pass to Riss for the 3rd goal!
None of this short passing rubbish at the back and going nowhere.
We were really on our game, long may it continue, Coventry a form team, taken to the cleaners 1st half!!
Let us keep this standard up, this passion and the football we played last night, the team looked so much sharper, the passing and closing down was quicker and who knows.
Bring on the Tigers next, another performance like last night and the play offs are on!!

Oh my sainted trousers. My head! We cannot keep playing like that or I am in trouble.

One of the best away performances I can remember. Beyond the obvious praise I'd like to single out the save from a rejuvenated Freddie and then how did Hughes not turn it into his own net and then recover to make the block. Big moment in the match that.

Well deserved win. Great to see us passing the ball accurately and being a threat on the break. Riis’s pace frightened them to death as he scored the first and made the other two. The back three were immense with Lindsay magnificent. Browne was captain fantastic with an assist for the first goal and controlled the right side of the pitch. Overall a great away performance against a very disappointing high riding Coventry side who just missed out on going into the Premier league last May, losing the playoff final to Luton. We could still get there on this showing!
Browne should play RWB for the rest of the season .

Wow. Genuinely wow.

That first half performance was the best I’ve seen us play in YEARS. The counter press was absolutely relentless. We won the ball high up the pitch on multiple occasions and we transitioned so quickly. The quality of some of the play wasn’t Preston North End.

Real credit to the lads and to Mr Lowe. He’s finally, finally getting it right.

Would also like to add, I rated that he didn’t fist pump at the end. He’s learning. He looked at the crowd and it was more of a ‘jobs not done yet’ look. Really rate it.

Starting to get excited now. West Brom and Hull draw tomorrow and next weekend is absolutely massive.

Get in. Up the fucking whites 👊🏻
Pleased for you & everyone who went last night Warton it's just nice seeing us play good football & players care. I didn't mind the pump by RL at end but it did get boring nice that he has learned and maybe the season can still end somewhere come end of final day.

some going after the bullshit stuff and 5 wins in 22.

Not a bad result for what other fans see as a very ordinary team. We are written off by many.

As pointed out it’s been a rollercoaster season, but with Riis back and playing 2 up have we found the right formula at exactly the right time I ask myself.

We are running on confidence which makes a huge difference, we have nothing to lose while those around us are ‘big’ clubs with big expectations which brings on nervy performances.

Can we achieve some consistency in the run to the end of the season?

I’ve just remembered Lindsay bursting through from the back and trying to slide Riis in…..Mads got in the way though and it came to nothing.
What the eck was Lindsay doing up there!

I don’t think he knew either, got lucky intercepting a ball and then almost stopped when he suddenly realised he had more space moving forward. Mads getting in the way stopped what would have been a better chance for him if Riis had then been able to slip the pass in for Mads

I was hoping Lindsay would go for glory TBH

Was a great moment when Frokjaer ran himself into the ground in the second half by the touch line and Osmajic was warming up and got a hold of him to show his appreciation. Feels like a real togetherness at the minute, not sure what’s changed but maybe having your best foot forward brings a better feel to the entire team instead of having to be pelted 24/7.
