Matchday Thread Coventry City v PNE -23/02/24 - KO:7.45PM

One big change which I think has helped the defence and also allowing us to play more attacking, is Woodman is now coming away from his line so much more which actually allows the defence to play that little further up the pitch so we can press higher and also makes him more available to be part of the buildup if a pass to him is needed to keep possession instead of booting it away.

I'm not his biggest fan, but this is a very welcoming change and improvement. Whether that be a new coaching instruction or a personal change of his own confidence of doing it, as Cornell was doing this in his appearance he made against Swansea. But either way, I'm glad to be seeing it.

For someone who didn’t watch it, what did we do well last night to produce such a great first half? Aggressive high press? Incisive on the counter? Their back line looked wide open on the highlights

Just played on the front foot, with Riis and Keane dragging their defence all over the place. After going a goal down after 1 minute they played a higher line and we punished them for it.

Aggressive pressing and quick counter

Biggest change since Riis has come back in is how he consistently positions himself behind one of the full backs instead of the two big centre backs. With our ball players, it’s letting us stretch the backline and get in behind quickly when the opposition full backs push up

Just had a look on the Coventry forum…..

A lot of their fans calling us thugs and anti-football, I love it , what do they want us to do , step aside and let them play fancy football ?

Some of their more sensible posters did say that they couldn’t handle our high press and how we had played them off the park…..

One poster said “ I’m not sure how you can call them anti football “

‘Anti-football’? We were the only side playing football last night

They literally couldn’t cope with our press and shat themselves whenever they had the ball. That’s their problem, not ours.

Granted, the 2nd half was dull, but it was because we killed the game off in a really professional manner.

I will admit that we play bad at times, but last night wasn’t one of them. Just bitter.

This our time now, 12 cup finals till the end of the season, win 8 and we are probably in the play offs.
It doesn't matter if we finish 7th or 17th now, time to crack on and go for it all big guns blazing.
No more sniping, time to get behind the manager and the players at fortress Deepdale and give it our best shot.

I hear a lot of fans say that about us, but i dont see us as a dirty team, we can be pretty frustrating with our time wasting when we're leading a game, but we're no dirtier than any other club in this league

I’ve just remembered Lindsay bursting through from the back and trying to slide Riis in…..Mads got in the way though and it came to nothing.
What the eck was Lindsay doing up there!

Love the "anti football" comments mmmmmm salty. No doubt we will have the same from hull fans next week when we shit on their playoff party.

To be where we are after the middle of the season we had is nothing short of miraculous. The team, Ryan and his coaching team deserve all the plaudits at the minute. Ryan could even be in line for manager of the month. With his 4 wins and a draw.

One very happy nobber here.

Hull have got Carvalho flying now. Draw would be a really solid result next week because it’s going to be a tough match

Far too good for this level. There is a reason he was playing in the Champions League just a few months ago.

Think we need to win next week if I’m honest.
