Matchday Thread PNE v Hull City - 02/03/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

Bloody hell that’s an entirely different game to the one I watched.
Glad it wasn't just me who thought that was a poor take.

Hull have a clear identity and we had a clear plan to press them high. The two most common outcomes were either they lost it in buildup, in which case we looked threatening in transition but lacked a clear chance to punish it, or they broke our press and got at us through one of their tricky wingers. Philogene was surprisingly quiet but still had flashes - partly because he was often against Storey who seemed to have no answer for him.

It was one of those games where a neutral would describe it as a good advert for the Championship and 0-0 was probably a fair result.

It definitely looked like Keane was pulled back as he tried to reach the ball that came back off the keeper. Should have been a penalty and sending off from our view in the STFS.
There was a clear handball too that all of us on the IPS could see.

Whiteman could have had a hat trick, and McCann's volley was goal bound. It wasn't a defensive performance. We came up against one of the best defences in the division.
I don’t think Whiteman has the ability to just smash a ball.

He always goes for placement over power.

It annoys the shit out of me.

Bit shit today, neither side wanted to lose and neither went for it and both managers got what they wanted.

RL reverted back to type and was too defensive!!
"Too defensive"?

We were pressing high from the first minute. We only stopped doing that when they started going long. If anything, we looked like the team more likely to score throughout the game.

"Bit shit" - 31 shots in total in the game, 16 corners, penalty shouts, good saves, quick and direct players on both sides, good football on display throughout... I'd love to know what you think can be classed as a "good game".

No blame on Lowe whatsoever for that result or performance.

A couple of chances came to his left foot; neither finish was particularly threatening. His chance in the second half was really well struck and headed for the bottom corner until a Hull toe got in the way.

Guilty as charged
The thing is, it's one if my favourite tracks although I never really liked his or The Smiths music bar this and What Difference..
Have you seen Rick Astley with the Blossoms doing their stuff? It's a fucking joy.

Ah, fair play.

I was up out of my seat in early celebration as I thought it was in all the way.

🤦🏻‍♂️😄

I’d have taken a draw before hand, Mc Cann was my MOM. What I would like to see stamped out is players dropping over the ball and covering it and sometimes even grabbing it before the ref has blown, or the linesman has even flagged for a foul. To me that is a hand ball and that’s what a Hull player did today.
