Nowt to do with his best striker regaining fitness then? Or his second best striker regaining fitness and hitting it off with the aforementioned? Or his best midfielder working out that the danish league and championship have different requirements?

Plenty of different narratives if you choose to look for them. We all see what we want to see….

PS I think Lowe is neither as good or bad as various posters here like to think.
Interesting and some fair points, however if our best striker had not suffered a serious injury, do you think he would still be at deepdale, pre injury was Lowe getting the best out of him ? Likewise was he getting the best out of Mads playing him out of position ?

The Evening Post reckons we are back in for Wigan goalie Sam Tickle. Surely nothing in it, unless Woodman is off somewhere....interestingly, said we nearly signed him on deadline day.

That'll be that Jordan Jones doing clickbait bollocks again.

If it isn't written by George Hodgson, don't bother.

*edit - it is bad that I knew who wrote this BEFORE seeing the link.

When Burnley got promoted under Dyche, they had a plan. Beat the teams in the bottom half (they did the double on every team from 13th down and that’s 72 points) and keep it tight against the rest. We only needed to have beaten Sheffield Wednesday & QPR at home and Birmingham & Rotherham away, and those extra 11 points would have seen us safely in the top 6. Those 4 games were not only winnable, they should have been won convincingly, and that is why we are where we are unfortunately.

Only thing to that is Rotherham around that time actually won at home to Norwich and Coventry so their fans will be saying the same thing.

I actually think the games that will really cost the club now is that Friday night at Swansea where all the decent attackers were benched and lost in the 95th minute.

Also Watford at home. 1-0 up in that going into half time and then completely imploded as soon as it went to 1-1. As the months since have shown they're a very average team at this level now.

Overall it was a dismal winter period when you mention that QPR match which was a horrible 90 minutes from start to finish.

The good news next season is if Browne remains then it's a decent spine to go into the season with for the first time in a few years albeit with question marks over Woodman and Riis with each having 12 months left so hopefully decisions will be made early on those two.

I was impressed with him in the cup v Man. United. No issue with that sort of signing as he clearly has more potential than Cornell. Guess the plan was to get him in the building for six months to adapt and then potentially ready to take over from Woodman when the time comes.

I'll break this story down for future reference all Summer...

Sunderland have joined Preston North End in admiring Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle, according to a report. Tickle was linked with a move to Deepdale at the end of January, but ended up remaining at the DW Stadium. It was claimed that he had the chance to sign for Preston before but ended up signing a new deal at Wigan.

North End's Championship rivals Birmingham City were also said to be interested at the time along with Everton but now there's another team chasing his signature. Mid-table Sunderland could consider signing Tickle according to The Sun's EFL journalist Alan Nixon who posted on his Patreon.

A new goalkeeper seems unlikely unless a club comes in for Freddie Woodman. The 27-year-old is under contract until the summer of 2025 after joining from Newcastle United. Woodman has been first choice this season having played 37 times with nine clean sheets.

Woodman was linked with a move to Leeds United last summer whilst Rangers was also said to have been admirers of him. A £3.5m move to Ibrox was suggested in March 2023 but Ryan Lowe joked that it would cost £20m to take him away from the club.

So basically;

This guy read that Alan Nixon had written on Twitter/Patreon that SUNDERLAND were thinking of a Summer move for Tickle.

THAT IS ALL.

But what these "journalists" do is steal that one story about Sunderland and Wigan from Nixon, add snippets of 6-12month old news, and link in Preston, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds and Rangers so that it comes up in those club's internet searches and gains them clicks which can be converted in to advertising revenue.

It then gets repeated on our forum as "The Evening Post reckons we are back in for Wigan goalie Sam Tickle..." and people do the internet searches, click the links and it snowballs...

Postscript;

It turns out the previous article which was the source of the "Tickle was linked with a move to Deepdale at the end of January" quote was also a Jordan Jones LEP article using another Alan Nixon Tweet/Patreon article (which was probably just agent leaks during his contract renewal talks) saying that Birmingham were "plotting a surprise move for Tickle" and suggested that PNE could step in IF there was late interest in Freddie Woodman.

This was again again hyperlinked to Everton, Newcastle, England u21s etc etc.

We have never actually been "in for" Tickle.

(I'll stop doing a @Thracia now)

That's simply not how football works, nor has it ever been. It's not top trumps.
Out of context maybe. It's easy to say that anybody can beat anybody over one game, but it's also easy to say that a team who are 8th after 30 odd games should on merit be beating a team who are in 21st. League positions at that point of the season shouldn't lie.

What's the feeling on Woodman then?

5m the price seemingly last season. If people are o.k with Riis moving for a knock down fee I can't see a keeper who's never played much in the prem and doesn't keep many clean sheets moving for a big fee if he choses to run down his deal.

A younger keeper certainly needs to be signed, let's hope it's a slightly better standard than Ripley!

Happy for him to stay and sign a new deal- imagine he's on a high wage though, so if he wants more after not really being outstanding, then happy for us to sell and move on if there is interest.

Regardless, very much a proponent of not pissing money away on an expensive number 2 keeper. If we were to sign Tickle or anyone else and move Woodman on for a fee, no worries. Would not want us extending Freddie's deal and then signing someone who expects a first team wage to understudy him- there are far too many better places to use that money.

Alvaro Fernández has barely played this season. Wonder if he'd be willing to join us on loan again (or perhaps sign permanently) in the summer
Benfica have a right to buy for 6 million euros (or an obligation if he started 50% of their games which he hasn’t) but they seem unlikely to trigger this. You’d presume United will want to sell now but would still be looking for what would be a record transfer for us. Overall can’t see it sadly….but not sure who’d pay anywhere near this ?

I'm not one for wishing ex players back but Alvaro I would have back in a heartbeat. Not worked out for him im Portugal my lad seems to think he is out of contract at Manure, on a free in a position we need to cover, Im sure we could pay him reasonably well and 2 years down the line may be a saleable asset. Just dream of him and Millar down the left. Defending may be a bit chaotic but oh the entertainment. Throw in Mads magic too. Whats not to like?
