Matchday Thread Gentry Day - Watford v PNE - 6/04/24 - KO:3PM

I genuinely am the first to point finger at Lowe when he’s shirked it, but if we genuinely had to start Cunningham, Lindsay, Storey, Whatmough, Brady, Hughes and McCann and expect us to go all out attack, I don’t know what we are all expecting.

That’s IF we had to start them, I’m assuming Holmes and Mads where unfit. But you can’t have 7 defensive players drop Keane to midfield and expect it to be fluid football.

Frustrating but, what can we do.
Have a go in the last 20 minutes? and desperately chase the 3pts we needed to keep our season alive?

Since our last foray into play offs in 2015 we have actually achieved the square root of fuck all in 9 years. Just let that sink in....9 years of mediocrity and no advancement
Whilst other teams have advanced, been promoted, relegated..promoted again...we stand still. In my 60s and fucked off with always being mediocre and the bridesmaid.

With the team we had out, I’d have taken a point before the match. We set up defensively because of the players that we had available and could quite easily have nicked it. Keane’s great volley from Riis’s flick deserved to win the match.
Of course it’s unlikely that we’ll make the playoffs this year but we are improving imo.

The only part of your post I disagree with.

There's never a plan B in games. We've suffered through some incredibly one-dimensional managers in recent years, but Lowe's got to be amongst the most predictable. Too easy to figure out by any manager worth their salt.
I'm probably being a little over generous to him, but after that line-up, a lack of creativity in any shape or form was always going to happen today.

Better sides would have punished us.

I'm not the managers biggest fan, never going to be, but he ain't going anywhere unless another club comes knocking. Summer will be interesting, and these final 6 games can't just be a time for the flip-flops to come out.

If we had lost by chasing the win, I absolutely guarantee the same people here criticising for the draw, would be criticising Lowe for losing.
Probably, but why does that matter? 0-0 or a 5-0 defeat, we're out of the race.

Where have the knocks with Holmes an Mads come from??
This continuous business with Browne?
Why take 2 strikers off?
The injuries mean nothing in a shit or bust game.
It's irrelevant.
We knew what we had to do.
Lack of urgency is completely unacceptable, whatever the personnel

Absolute load of shite. Offered very little in that second half and were just happy to play for a point.

As per usual in typical North End fashion, the season just peters out and we can enjoy once again mid-table mediocrity.

Well done Peter and the rest of the "trust" - we've achieved what we set out to achieve. You must all be delighted!!

We should no doubt have gone for it more.

BUT… I don’t agree that the point is meaningless. On the off chance that we win our upcoming two home matches- which isn’t impossible- the league table will look a quite a lot different and we would face the final four scary fixtures still in with a chance.

I’d much rather have Rotherham’s last 10 years than ours, without a shadow of a doubt.

You’d have to be automatically addicted to smack and have 4 teeth, but I’d rather have Blackpool’s genuinely.

They’ve had 2 trips to Wembley, at least.

I guess so, we did slow down which was a bit shite, but who steps up to have a go and turn it on though in that scenario? We played every striker we could at the same time, that didn’t work. Will admit he made the Mads change way too late, but the team was all defenders really, can’t just turn Whatmough and McCann into Clarence Seedorf.

The reality of the situation is, we don’t have a very good depth of squad, our starting 11 are good enough to give anyone a run in the division for the first time in a long time, but behind that a lot of those second string players wouldn’t be out of place at top end league one sides.

Birmingham was the real shitter, that was the one that killed the season with all the circumstances, and when we lack even one or two of our best players we aren’t actually that good.

Disappointing of course, petering out of course, but I think circumstances have massively killed that today after shitting ourselves on Monday.
