Matchday Thread Gentry Day - Watford v PNE - 6/04/24 - KO:3PM

Gentry day postscript. My first visit ti Vicarage Road . Watford fans we encountered were pleasant, friendly and showed a genuine interest to learn about Gentry day. Thanks to Watford FC.

It would be a start on Gentry day , and hopefully more games after, if we lost all the chants about that lot with the Tower, Would add to the idea of us being Gentry. Im sure in 1970/71 season there were none of these chants.
Second that Flaxby, very hospitable day out.
Credit to Watford supporters, stewards, Oddfrllows pub bar staff and the Watford compere.
He made the young North End mascot very welcome , must have made his day saluting the away end!
More ideas for North End to follow maybe at Deepdale?
Interviewing the mascots before the kick off.?

Seems repetitive about chanting anti Jaffa cake songs, do wish our more informative chanters could come up with more original material.
Although back in 70/71 , I was around then, there was more simplistic chants, certainly about that tower falling down!
As a sideline, visited the Hornets shop before kick off, absolutely blows North Ends out of the water, (no surprise).
Kit manufacturers are Chinese, member of staff said there halfway through a 7 year deal. Kehms there called.
Very impressive .

If you would prefer winning only four times in a season then perfect. I agree that at the moment finishing midtable every season is boring.

But I would 100% take that over having a season where you win four games. I know how it feels to be relegated. It bloody hurts. Having that just to come back up the season after. I mean what’s the point.
What’s the point of finishing 10th-16th every season with no threat of ever achieving anything? It’s fucking boring.

My best day supporting North End was a promotion from League One. The point is making memories, when we’re old and senile like me then I’d rather be able to talk and reminisce about celebrating promotions/titles than that time we finished mid table every year.

You are already old and senile if you think it’s memorable to be doing the same thing over and over again without having anything to show for it. Now clear off I’m not biting with the kids today do something better with your holidays than bore the adults.

My worst day supporting North was when we got relegated against Cardiff and we had some donkey lasher flying a plane over deepdale take the piss. It’s embarrassing.

Ask any Rothertham fan and I bet the vast majority of them would rather be in our position than theirs. They are probably fed up with getting relegated all the time. Getting promoted from league one is a great memory. But I don’t want to experience that memory again because the heartbreak to get there is worse. You might like the feeling of relegation. If you do you’re weird but each to their own I guess.

Depends if your hopes go further than just a nice day on the piss, surely?

Listened to a Watford podcast whilst out walking called 'from the rookery end' and they were hugely complimentary about our Gentry Day activities. Equally, they found it bizarre that we were so negative for the whole game which mirrored the views of both sets of supporters I spoke to in the pub afterwards. Feels like a Moyes/WHU scenario (at a lower level) where overall it's been a decent season but frustrating that the management team take such a safety first approach. Made me smile when quoting Lowe's comment that Watford were in good form (they clearly didn't agree given they haven't won at home since November). A couple of wins for us this week and the season is back alive which would be good given I have 3 more away games to attend.

I feel we are entering the Last Chance Saloon now. Anything less than victory in these next two games and we can pack our bags for summer hols which is why the 'lack of effort'.... I don't like that phrase but can think of nothing more appropriate right now....against Watford when a win was possible, is even more puzzling, as a win there would have extended our period of hope.

And I am sure that you spoke well to the Watford fans, you seem to have a Sweet Disposition..... .
