Matchday Thread Gentry Day - Watford v PNE - 6/04/24 - KO:3PM

We got a result... albeit a poor one given our fellow play-off contenders all won.

As for Mads, he had ONE poor game against Brum. Previous to that he's been superb and given he's our main attacking outlet, he should be starting practically every game.
I fully agree 3 PTS was needed. 👍🏻

Mads hasn't just had one poor game though has he. He looked great the game before again at the worst team in the league and has looked great in other games when our better players find him but if that isn't happening then he's a passenger in games.

I'm sorry but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the question, an going off the chants from the fans that were there, plus others listening or watching at home, it's a question that we wanted an answer to.
For God's sake, maybe we should just have everything scripted for him beforehand an give him an easy ride, even though its blatantly obvious, he's unforgivably reverted back to type at a crucial stage of the season.
For me that is totally unacceptable, whatever the personnel out there on the pitch.
We need wins, nothing less!!

I respect people's opinions, doesn't mean I have to agree with them. 👍🏻

I'm sorry, I just don't agree. His recent form, since he's been regularly starting, has been superb. He had to find his feet a little earlier in the season but even then he was showing what he can do - unfortunately he was unfairly bottomed-out by Lowe. The Birmingham game was just one game in a long, long while that he was poor - baffling that he was just dropped after one poor performance.

Nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree pal. I dont totally disagree with you though. Mads at times gas been excellent. The times he has been off it he's been anonymous. If he was consistently great he'd be nowhere near North End. 👍🏻

you would need to teach the fucker to read first!!!!

with the players available, incl those playing with injuries, I expected getting torn apart by their 'quick front line'......so the fact we didnt and the effort put in by them all I was pleased with most of it, not least to coaching.

the fact we have 2 front players who cant control a ball; cant head or link together and generally cant stay onside doesnt help the attacking play.......and lets be honest does Millie have sledge hammers in his boots when trying to receive a pass. So yes I'd have taken both off earlier but sadly Stewart doesnt look ready and there was nobody else!

I am by no means a Ryan Lowe fan. I wanted him gone mid season. So you are way off the mark with your opening paragraph.

I do however believe in giving credit where it is due. I think that is fair and reasonable.

The debacle at Brum.🤔 Mads and Holmes started that game and we lost. They started on the bench yesterday against arguably (the table backs this statement up) a better team and we draw. Again the point I'll make is there are no guarantees we'd have won yesterday had both Mads and Holmes started.
Even if you don't think they should have started, surely, having reached the 60-70 mins mark, still on even terms and knowing (after the Norwich win) a point wasn't enough, you'd agree he should have put them on and had a real go?

In normal circumstances, especially with the injuries, a draw at Watford would have been a decent result but we needed 3 points and I for one wouldn't have criticised him if he'd had a go and we'd lost.

@Schemer regardless of my opinion on lowe's answer to being questioned about the team selection and subs etc.... I can totally see why people are pissed off, are questioning the team selection and in game decisions. We needed the 3pts and in an ideal world I'd love to see us push to get the 3pts.

I'd have started Mads and Holmes if I was the manager. I am not saying that would have got the 3 points. That being said it's is easy for any of us to have an opinion and say what we would have done, it's not our career and reputation at stake.

Like yourself, i wouldn't have kicked off should Lowe have gone for it sooner and we lost the game but taking into consideration we lost at Birmingham I am sure plenty others would have been out for blood. Any excuse to go after Lowe it seems.

I wanted Lowe gone in the poll and stand by that, at that time. Football horrendous and results just as bad. Since Xmas the football and results gave improved massively. As much as he got all the shit for when things were bad he should be cut some slack when things have been positive.

I have to say, though the game itself was uninspiring, the three course meal in Watford's hospitality was exceptionally good!

By the way, we arrived at the same time as Peter Ridsdale, Craig Hemmings and Ben Rhodes (and a fourth person, not sure who) but we got through security quicker than they did.

The Oddfellows was a decent pub too.

Their quick front line that are part of a side to not win at home since November isn't it?

We might have lost if he had played Mads and Holmes but it would have least shown intent of going for a win which with Norwich's win earlier in the day meant a defensive draw wasn't good enough.

They started vs Brum and there was zero attacking intent in that game. We could still be playing now and we wouldn't have troubled Ruddy.

I completely understand your frustration Mick. I am frustrated but I recognise that losing Browne, Whiteman and Millar are hugged loses to a team. Had we had a full squad to go at Watford with and Lowe refused to have a go then that is criminal.

agree

a team of Woodman
Storey Lindsay Hughes
Potts Browne Whiteman Millar
Mads
Keane Riis

would or at least should have got more points this past few weeks....
but we only had 4 of that team playing in their preferred positions and I think it was only 5 at Birmingham too.

not sure Norwich would be doing so well with 50% of their best players missing.

Maybe not but sitting back and looking for a draw when a win was needed , maybe they would have gone for it l

Knew there’d be some arse like this.

And yeah, I know it wasn’t you, because the likelihood is if you did go to away games, you’d know that most people just stand where there is space.

Funnily enough I didn’t get moved out my seats at Swansea, Plymouth, or Cardiff.
Hahahaha (at the thought that I don't go to away games. One of about 200 at Swansea, various others, but yeah, I don't do aways...Hilarious!)
I pretty much always go to my allocated seat because as soon as people don't, it's unfair on others. People who've booked together to sit together, people who need specific areas etc. Less necessary at games where there's loads of room.
I just don't understand this entitled mentality of "I'll go where I like". Would you behave like this at the cinema, theatre etc? You absolutely wouldn't be doing it in a play off final at Wembley either.

Second photo in, I’m sure that lady with the blonde hair is/was Karen Stringfellow…..

I remember her from Mercers coaches about 45 years ago….

If it is her , she looks very well.
