Could someone please tell me how to take Phil off ignore. I don't even know how you put someone on ignore.
Sorry Phil, I'm an old git who doesn't know what he's doing 😂.

Click on his username. You should get an option at bottom left to 'Unignore'.

Just because Ridsdale does a terrible job of it, doesn't mean it's the impossible job.

If we avoid bullshitting sock salesmen with our next appointments, we might even find it costs us less than £300k, and the results might even be competent - certainly more accountable, if all the roles are not bestowed upon one bloke.

I’m not really in a position to make a judgement either way, just baffled by the word salad durutti was serving up.

So it’s both not complicated and not easy. Fine.

Well, the target outcome is uncomplicated: sign good players that are affordable for the club and a good age to make potential profits on them.

To do it requires a knowledge base that Ridsdale doesn't have. Sadly, Joe Savage an ex employee here did and therefore went to Hearts, and was successful in signing good players they could afford (some of them quite young too).

The DoF in the modern era needs to know what underlying data is the most important and use that as a starting point for scouting. If you were to get say, James Beet, Oli O'Connell, Joe Savage and Peter Ridsdale in a room, gave them all a laptop and said 'find me an affordable player who would improve us playing in Belgium' the other three would either know them already or be able to tell you in an hour who to scout.

Ridsdale would nip to the bogs and call Ryan Lowe's mate at MRKTs.

Absolutely. The DoF/recruitment head should really be separate from everything else.

Even a dumpster fire of a club like Rovers have understood that and had separate DoF that don't handle traditional 'Chairman' duties for years (and their recruitment in worse financial restrictions has arguably been better).

The sad thing is that we are at the moment where we could really churn this squad, keep very few of the OOC players and rebuild. If we had someone who knew a bit about this stuff it could be an exciting moment in our modern history at the end of this season.

One thing they looked at a lot in NTT20 is the idea of squads 'gelling' and after looking at a lot of clubs in league 1/2 (that due to financial pressures have to squad churn quite aggressively sometimes) they've kind of come to the conclusion that the idea of a squad 'gelling' is bollocks. Throw good players together and you can put out very different teams from last year and they can be much better. Better players often just quickly play well together.

We saw it with SSL and Chilvers. From day one it pretty much just 'worked'. We could send out and bring in a lot of players at the end of this season.

I have 4 people on ignore and they are staying there…. 😁

And they all have sleepless nights....

I'm on that list because I reported (one of many) xenophobic posts....

You must have had a heads up from a mod. Well done....

Nowt to do with owt but, yesterday at the match someone behind me commented on the intermittent tangerine advertising hoarding around the pitch. The comment was along the lines of “he (PR) should know by now about having that colour in the stadium or is he doing it to wind us up more”.

Got to say that i have myself thought that the tangerine advertising was a bit 'ill thought out' - to say the least!!!

Quite right. Also, when I see the officials wearing orange I know they won’t favour us.

I keep looking at the OOC list, I expect the club are in negotiations with several of them, but have to question whether it’s worth offering new contracts to those over 30 as they will have no resale value, if they take one year extensions at the same wage maybe fair enough, also I wonder how many of them are thinking about Alan Browne getting a worse deal than he was offered here, the club is bound to be asking the manager if he thinks we can get better in those positions for similar money, and therefore is it worth offering new contracts to player who would only be on the bench, there are a lot of variables here.

Even though it was, quote " the advertising hoarding around the pitch " - it would still be Way Above his head.
