Is there a plan?

Is there a plan?

Yes we were in for Williamson but so were Sheff Utd. They offered Williamson £2000 a week more than us the rest is history.

We need one expereinced ballwinner in the middle - Williamson would of been perfect but we need to move on. There are plenty of options out there and I trust AI to bring in the right one.

Then in CM a young prospect would be ideal. I don't mind if he comes from a reserve team or Ruganda. We need 2 CM.

Thinking about it the loss of McKenna changes nothing. We need a defensive midfielder who'll collect the ball and release it. We needed one before he left and still need one. McKenna wasn't a defensive midfielder or a box to box player.

I honestly believe that either St Ledger or Nolan could do a job as a defensive midfielder, but another one is needed.

The reason I don't think Jones does a good job there is because he never looks for the ball, hardly ever runs with it and isn't a great passer.

If you look at the squad we are top heavy in certain positions and short in others. The positions we're top heavy are centre half, attacking midfielders, strikers (whether people like it or not we have 5).

We are short at defensive midfield, left back and left wing.

Jaymo youve put the way im feeling right now into words better than i could.

I do try.

I said on another thread I can see this Irvine thing turning into another BD situation. In some ways that might not be as big of an upheaval as it was when BD left. I dont think AI is at the same level as BD persoanlly and the general consensus (not something I necessarily subscribe to) is the backroom staff is worse then useless. If we had a clearout then it could be an oppurtunity to have a rethink and maybe freshen some things up.

I think the club as a whole is in a worse state then it was when BD left. Worse squad, more debt, slightly less attendances.

I hope it doesnt get to that stage obviously. but it wouldnt surprise me one bit.

Please shut up about Irvine and his agenda and I'll think about it.

p.s You're obviously a sad old man

You might not like it, but he's right.

Amazing isn't it, as soon as people start realising that there was no way that Irvine turned down the WBA job Shaky gets told that he's a boring twat for keep going on about it, but when they were convincing themselves the Irvine was being loyal they were quite prepared to argue the toss with him about it.

It's a bit embarrassing actually. 😱

no

The fact that he may have turned down a "better" job doesn't bother me in the slightest (though i would like him to stay because he's a good manager)

yes, Shaky KEEPS going on about it...that's the key here.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

So you think we need a defensive midfielder who will collect the ball and release it, but you think SSL could do a job because he can run with the ball seemingly.

SSL is a pretty poor passer in all honesty, and its that reason I wouldnt play him in the middle.

Only callum from our defense could do a job IMO. But then we have no LB.

Like I said, special school material, and there's the proof. 😱

To be fair, and if you read people's posts properly, it's the frequency of the message - not the content.

Shaky is entitled to his opinion, but opinion starts to jar when it's re-told all the chuffin' time.

It's obvious to me that the Irvine/WBA saga doesn't quite stack up, but I doubt we'll ever get the bare facts, so we're stuck with what we've got.

I rate Irvine as a coach, but he's no different from the rest of us - who all would bugger off for the promise of better career prospects and better wages.

Your putting words in my mouth!😕

I think SSL is a good passer of the ball, although he does make mistakes. Is it not better he makes them further up the field, with defenders behind him than in defence. He can certainly win the ball on the floor and in the air, AND the fact he can run with it is a bonus. He can be very composed on the ball, as can Nolan.

Billy Jones isn't composed on the ball and that's why I would prefer the other two. Is Jones a great passer? I'm not sure he's better than SSL. Considering what we paid for him I'm a bit disappointed in him.

That's exactly the way I see it. At the end of the day it's more difficult to pass with style out of defence than it is in midfield where you have more options.

Many good judges have stated that SSL has the potential to make a very good midfielder and he should at least be tried out in this position in pre-season, sadly it probably won't happen will it due to Irvine's conservatism when it comes to his team's tactics.
