Not sure how accurate this is in terms of dates, but here's a few badges from the past...

What astonishes me is the amount of people who have never noticed how bad it actually is, or don't care.

When you compare to the designs of other clubs, we are far behind some.

These things matter very much when that is your brand identity, and people buy shirts and other clothing with that badge on.

We even had a badge which was even worse, during the BAXI era, the font was all over the place. Different sized O's in the Preston and North words, for example.

Someone redesigned our badge once, in the same way that the Chelsea and Arsenal badge was re-designed You even get luddites saying you can't do that. Based on what? The dozen odd badges we've had over the years says otherwise.

It's a business and you would hope fans would be happy to wear something that looks good, fresh, cool, if done correctly and incorporates elements of our history, tradition etc

What is probably actually the case is we fear changing the current badges on the stand and various other places.

NB You actually don't need the scrolls, they deliver nothing of interest. The badge is nicer without them.

Badges i like - Bristol City, Oxford United, Derby County, Norwich City, Chesterfield, AFC Wimbledon, Salford, Brighton, Harrogate, Wolves, Forest. All simple.
Agree with everything you say, it has put my off buying merchandise for years now. To be honest when I look what I’ve saved by not buying stuff it’s a trip Benidorm 😉
Seriously though it is the crest or should I say tacky ribbons that has saved me money, not kit design or make etc.

Agree also with what you say re badges of other clubs, football fans know a clubs crest in the same way F1 fans know the Ferrari crest. Simple, striking and has impact. You don’t need silly ribbons wrapped around to let people know who you support!
Nice to talk, thanks

When the badge is smaller than the logo - people don't notice it as much.

Spuds may come & Spuds may go, but the badge will go on forever - and needs to be more promenent.

The original 1950's one with the Navy Blue backing is my favourite up-to-now - but I do think Lamby's flag should have both a longer staff with a bigger actual White heraldic flag featuring the Navy/Sky-blue cross - flying at its end.
Lamb's should be a bit plump....too lean & it would look like a Goat or a Big Dog !
The background could be either Navy or Sky blue. The whole thing should be in Silver thread except for the Blue background. The halo & PP in Silver thread
And ditch the pointless scrolls. Daft.

Exactly, certainly on the white shirt or it doesn't stand out at all and is less prominent than not only the appalling sponsor logo but even the maker's logo.

I remember this was on the players Blazers, which they always wore on match days in the 60s and early 70s when I started supporting us
I think there was until recently ( could be still there ) an ''old boy'' who always proudly wears/wore his - who's part of the S.T. F. stand Hospitality Team that helps out the VIP's ( Idk if he's still there ) . It was getting a bit 'shiny' - but still smart . He looked about 75 years young.

I love the classic 70s retro design. Simple badge, lamb, flag and PP.

I think part of the problem with our badge is it looks a bit passive as the lamb is dormant (as per the city crest, so understandable). I saw some other lamb depictions from heraldry here.

A more "active" lamb worked into a simplified heraldic crest with the PP and maybe a Lancashire rose would still be traditional but might not look quite so much like we're happy to plonk ourselves down and enjoy mid table.

I know graphic styles, rather than heraldic, are vogue these days, but I think there's a balance somewhere to be found.
