....and tomorrow at the Bescot Stadium....Roper`s Preston will be playing four, four fucking two !!!!!

For this game only I would select

RUDD

CLARKE
HUNTINGTON
WRICHT
BUCHANAN

HUMPHREY
WELSH
KEANE
LAIRD

HOLMES
DAVIES

I know we need a win but we need to be solid down the flanks.....it looks like a defesive side and it is from the off but the impact players from the bench will come into play later.

It`s an 14 man game not just 11.

Get at them early big john attack is the best form of defence thats always been my philosophy. 11 goal Nicky wroe, monakan lee holmes beavon lairdy joing in davis. That will shock them lets get at them they will be expecting us to try and stop them. Were not expected to get anything so lets have a real go. We coukd always tighten up when we get our noses in front. Im from tge kevin keegan school of management lol

I would take a draw even if it meant it sparked a load of negativity on here. Oldham is a great shout for a win.

Yes - that would suit me though the reports I have had from the last couple of matches indicate that Garner and Davies have looked good together. But that team is still not perfect. The back four is not very fast and with Holmes drifting towards the centre a really pacy right-back - which Clarke is not - coming up on the overlap would be a great thing to have. Alternatives from existing players are to move Keane to right-back, Clarke to the centre of the defence in place of the lumbering Huntington and bring Welsh back to the centre of the midfield - though is he still the same player as least season or has he peaked. Humphrey has not done enough yet to warrant a starting place and should be kept back as a right-sided impact sub - Monakana can serve that role for the left. Beavon is not a winger but he might be effective wider to the right of a central striking partnership of any two of Davies, Hume and Garner.

Welsh and wroe know each others game wroe finished the season leading scorer and welsh finished the season player of the year weres the problem

when keane and laird were our respective full backs we went through our best spell under westley.

its not about just 11 lads its about the relationship they have on the pitch with each other and comfortable they feel playing with somebody there used to

monakana and lee holmes switching wings ripped stevenage to bits again two lads who can do that and cause the oppostion s lot of problems.

I'm with you on all those points and I'd start Monakana on the right and Holmes on the left and alternate as the games go on.

Not away from home Ernest! We'd get caught 2 on 2 at the back all the time, and it would leave Huntington too exposed. Best to let Holmes attack without any defensive responsibilities with Clarke behind him to cover, down the left is where we'd have an advancing overlapping full back. We'd still keep the cover of 3 at the back while we're attacking (the same 3 at the back from Tuesday...) but with little more shape in the midfield.

Illiterate, but I agree.

4 4 f*****g 2 as you put it is very much a formation of the past and will be seen less and less. 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 is what will be seen more often these days with interchanging midfielders. The top sides in the premier league and around Europe rarely if ever use 4-4-2. I would like to see us stick with 4-2-3-1 and MY choice of players would be:
Rudd

Keane Clarke Wright Laird

Welsh Byrom

Hayhurst Beavon Holmes

Davies

Rudd
Keane: Clarke: Wright: Laird
Humphrey: Hume: Welsh: Holmes
Davies: Beavon

The reason I have gone for this team is:

We seemed to do ok last season whilst we had Keane & Laird at full back. I know it would be unfair to drop Buchanan, but if we want to start winning we need Laird in at left back. He is class, and gives us a better attacking option. He is also good at set pieces and should take the majority of corners and free kicks.

Last season, Keane helped Monakana a lot, and hopefully he can do a similar job for Humphrey.

Most people are agreed that we need an attacking midfield player who can unlock defences. I am giving Hume that opportunity. Welsh to win the ball, give it to Hume and Hume to find Davies or Beavon.
