Absolute Basics

It was quite amusing ( i suppose) that we release the set piece coach and on more than one set piece offensively we seemed far more dangerous, plus defending better.
Still abysmal at throw ins though, lost count and patience of the number of throws we gave away in 3 touches , sometimes straight to the opposition from the launch!
Small but important teaks still needed in this area, has been for last couple of seasons at least.

I do agree, but in respect of getting things sorted throw ins are a bit down the list TBH.

Talking about them - their Player taking them in front of the Finney did a foul throw every single time.
He constantly threw them in, from a running position.
it seems that neither the refs or the linesman are actually watching the actual throw in!!

What was clear, is that we didn't press their 'keeper when the ball was passed back to him. He was allowed to put his foot on the ball, have a look up, see what pass was available and distribute accordingly.
Iversen was given very little time by their forwards.

Several times Burgzorg took up a position on the back post (not marked) and quickly changed position just before the kick was taken - several times moving just in front of the keeper or into a position like the one for the goal. Several other movements seemed to be working to a plan and we did seem to try and vary them a little bit- although the delivery wasn’t great I thought for most of them.

It depended on the situation. He was pressed in the moments when they were already pressing and they passed back to him, which did cause some balls to no one.

When they were simply trying to bait a press to try and open us up more to play through, then he was left to it.

Big shout out to Brad Potts, I thought he was excellent in the central midfield role first half with several strong tackles breaking up WBA's play. After such a long period out injured, playing in those conditions today i thought he did really well. Today was a great team performance, all the lads gave their all. Well done to the manager for getting them competing at last. Hopefully a nice week in training & a bit of a morale boost we can improve further and hopefully get a result. The fixtures are v tough, so lets sit tight.

Yeah, let's not break Potts again with this wingback nonsense. He's got 100,000 miles on the clock and I for one am happy to see him clattering around the midfield from here on in. Could be valuable if he can stay fit this year. Let the younger lads do the RB/WB thing, Potts in midfield looked physical and talented. He's probably at about 40% match fitness too.

Totally different that second half performance. Something to build on, what really angers me is the fact that Hecky was allowed to pull the pants down of our club and was assisted by messrs Ridsdale, Hemmings and Penrose, all 4 should hang their heads in shame.

What needs to happen now is Grezza needs a kings ransom of cash to inject in the playing staff.

Hecky got the players he wanted

Delano - complete waste of money send him back in January if we can
Erabi - another waste of money and send him back as well
Lang - yet another waste of money - Portsmouth still laughing all the way to the bank

But by far the biggest mistake and annoyance was missing out on Gudjohnsen who was at Euxton with everything agreed but wanted to listen to what Rovers were offering so clown Heckingbottom spat the dummy out and said I don't want him now, just what a massive mistake that was.

No strengthening of the Defence - sheer folly. Although credit where its due today on that back line and to Pottsie for putting in a real shift.

The big problem with those 4 is the contempt that they have against the supporters and arrogance in running or should i say ruining this great club. the stock from PR when challenged is " Its Craigs money he will do what he wants with it " and " How much have you put in the pot " plus " I don't know what's happening with the take over "

The sooner the better we get rid of those 3 the better.

Pleased for Grezza but that 1 was worthy of 3. Did we see today that the tide is beginning to turn, hopefully but we are still toothless up front with Kenny so where are the goals coming from.

I’m much happier tonight, I’d lost my faith a bit the last couple of weeks, couldn’t bring myself to watch most of the Wrexham and brum games. Being back at deepdale today though and seeing the fight from the lads was refreshing, and to be gutted that we haven’t got our deserved 3 points against 5th in the league is a positive in itself, as being told we’d have got a point before the game would’ve been a surprise.
No doubt we’ve give ourself an uphill climb already, but Stoke and Sheffield United are beatable if we play like we did today, and if we have a competent referee, which is too much to ask for sometimes.
Up the whites

Would stick with Potts in midfield if his fitness can hold up.

He is at least busy and can run with the ball.

Fits the backs to basics tone of this thread.

Also give Moran a run of starts now.

Teams don't need to press Iversen, they know he'll always give it back to them. It's as simple as that.

Excellent post - agree100%

The same Ridsdale and Penrose that picked Grezza ?

We all know that we’ve been starved of success and I should know, this is my 60th season as a Nobber, so I understand some of the doom and gloom that some on here display, in spadefuls, about our current plight. But thank God the worst exponents of that pessimism aren’t managing our team. If they were, we would be well and truly doomed. Read the matchday thread prior to kick off and you’ll see the very definition of doom and gloom.
I know we didn’t win the three points we just about deserved today, but I thought it was a great effort from everyone - players and fans. We need less negativity if we’ve to have a chance of staying in this division. Alexander is trying to set the right tone, as supporters let’s continue to follow his example.

So good to have this positivity back . Totally agree we looked more committed. Some of the defensive interceptions were excellent. Before KO, there was a positive vibe around the fans who really got behind the team. And the more the team gave, the more the fans gave back

Potts in midfield could be an inspired move. Storey had one of his best games. Vuk was a constant threat. Mills looked good.

That refereeing though, jeez.

That's a bold statement.

Didn't get to see the full game, but Potts for all his flaws and detractors offers so much more to the team than the pedestrian pointer Thompson does. The constant running the big horse does seems to open up space for Leroy to start doing his thing too, which is hugely beneficial to the team.

My issue with the podcast this week: the normally excellent Ollie stating that we were wrong to remove Heckingbottom. I don't think the WBA performance would be anything like under Heck. The long term damage he has done through his involvement in transfers is incredible.

I think you have highlighted the major issue with him. He was arrogant enough to feel he knew a player and the evidence suggest he was, transfer wise, probably our worst manager.

(Before people reference Westley here remember that two of his signings would, years later, lead us to glory at Wembley)
