The stuff with Nicky Campbell today has triggered some very old memories.
I went to a primary school in the Preston area and had a brilliant childhood. The primary school I did go to was a good church school and most of it was great. But one of my abiding memories was of a head teacher who was only there for a couple of years. Mr M. He suddenly disappeared around 1980.
We moved away from the Preton area a couple of years later but my mum saw a story in the paper about how Mr M had been convicted of being a paedophile.
I wasn't abused, but one of my most vivid memories of him, was when he took our class for a lesson in the main hall. He was firing out general knowledge type questions to the class and if someone got them wrong he would take them over his knee and smack their behind. One girl, Jane, who had long blond hair and very pretty, got special attention. We all just laughed and thought this was normal. She was laughing, or pretending to anyway.
It's such a weird memory now I'm in my 50's. I hope Jane is OK and I never even told my mum and dad because it seemed somehow OK.
