Alan Browne

Alan Browne

True, it was a great pass, my point is that it was quite an intricate pass that could have been cut out easily as it was played bwtween 2 defenders , whereas the simple ball on to Potts would have given Brad just as good chance but without the risk.
Just opinions
But it wasn’t cut out?

Poor at the moment, not justifying his selection ahead of McCann.

Ledson has now given him even more problems as he deserves a start ahead of Browne on current play.
Yup, I agree. I'm not sure why Ledson was the substitute choice on Tuesday. He was having a great game. Yet Browne seems untouchable.

I'm one that's thought for a while "why is he playing and why is he Captain?" On Tuesday night, there was an instance where the ref gave Rotherham a goalkick versus what everyone else thought was a PNE corner. Johnson was in the ref's face, asking "are you sure?" but Browne was nowhere to be seen. And that's the thing for me - he fails to get involved with contentious decisions, fails to motivate the players around him and, generally, fails to fill the role. Yes, I accept that some of his passes are grand, but there aren't enough of them to justify a starting place when we have the likes of Ledson and McCann proving their ability.

I also think we should drop Browne because he doesn't shout.

Deary me.

McCann and Woodburn both didn’t do enough to justify dropping either Browne or DJ (who was poor) for the weekend.
Seems irrelevant really when the manager dropped McCann after his performances vs Huddersfield and Luton.

Lowe seemed to get carried away and this is part of the problem with having 5 subs. The obvious change was Woodburn for Browne and leave DJ on. The crosses were mostly being dealt with by Rotherham but the little passes where we went probing for an opening where the key to unlocking their defence.

Browne quite simply loses the ball far too often and doesn’t then offer enough in the rest of his game to compensate. Time for a long spell out of the team.

If you watch Browne closely his ball retention is poor. His "back heel and spin" trick is often used because of the lack of pace to get away from players. Most things he does take too long or require an extra touch. His workrate and commitment covers a multitude of problems. He recently admitted publicly that he wasn't happy with his form, which continues to be patchy at best. Continuing to play any player out of form ultimately isn't good for the player or the team.

It was the obvious change in your opinion. It wasn’t that obvious to quite a few around me though as they all thought DJ was having a poor game and to be fair I agree. He offered nothing. At least Browne was starting attacks on Tuesday and it’s no coincidence our best spell in the game came when he was playing at his best.

‘A long spell out of the team.’ Why? When again DJ offered next to nothing it’s Browne who get scapegoated. I just think it’s weird.

I also don’t see this obsessions for McCann to start every game. He’s a good player but not god and I wish people would stop believing this.

DJ and Brady were causing havoc on the LHS. Browne in the second half improved on him losing possession 12 times in the first half but he didnt look like unlocking their defence, albeit his pass for Parrott in the first half was spot on.

I cba going over the Browne stuff again really, take a look at my posting history going back several years if you wish. This is nothing new. Neil took him off in his early days here and then had a good at the fans for booing him.

I’ve never mentioned anything about wanting McCann to start every game. However he’s never started more than 2 consecutive games under Lowe, if you think that’s being given as good as chance as some of the others then that’s up to you. But many others don’t.

You misunderstand me. It's not about shouting, it's about being a Captain. Perhaps you can recall a situation where Browne was visibly motivating the players or showing passion?
Its good cop, bad cop they've been doing it for years.

DJ stands o free kicks argues with the ref and sometimes eventually gets a yellow. Browne is more likely to get a yellow for his tackling so letting DJ take the yellow for dissent also helps when Browne tells the ref he'll tell DJ or whoever to behave as of course Browne isn't the problem child at that point.

When Browne does argue with the ref etc he gets sent off - see the Gloomfilled Road game last season...

Alan's comms has room for improvement. I know this as I've spoken to him, seen his tweets and seen a text.

I would hope the management could help him with this, but prob only so far - it's a natural characteristic, one which Greegs and Clarke did very well.

I think that was more to do with hitting the lasher player tbh

Major weakness in our squad this guy.

Not only is he no where near captain material, he's also spectacularly failed to perform since having the arm band.

His inability to create anything is going to seriously damage any creative potential.

What happens when he gets the ball? It goes back to the defence.

He's been poor for too long now.

Don't think he was our worst performer today. I do recall one moment in the first half though where Brum has the ball in our half and nobody was pressing them - Browne was the closest player but just stood there marking thin air until the crowd got on his back and he lurched into action - says it all really. It's probably the system and position he is played in, but the past 2 seasons he's been a shadow of the player from 3/4 years ago, and doesn't impact games enough to warrant being one of our highest earners.

We've had some great captains over the years, players hard as nails who would run through brick walls for the cause - Gregan, Alexander, Clarke. Browne doesn't fit the bill imo.

He literally put Riis through 1v1 for arguably the best chance of the game.
