Even if we decided to stump up the £4.5 million I think wages will be a stumbling block and blow our wage structure out of the water

This is quality that we didn’t have last season, Devine, Dobbin, Small and Armstrong..

I would liken it a bit to its not far off having all of Sepp, Alvaro, KKH and one of Archer/Cannon in the same team together. If we highlight Archer then those four players all had their season loans in four different seasons so potential is huge here if they can all stay fit and feature in 35-40 games.

Loads of teams in the past finished top 6 due to their main players being season loanees. Indeed when PH went up with Sheffield United he had Tommy Doyle and James McAtee on season long loans from Man. City so looks to me he's as good as Grayson was in realising this and then hopefully you sign a couple of them at a later date if finances permit.

He can't be on anything more than 10-15k at Spurs? They signed him when he was 16, not sure how many new contracts he's had since.

Troy Parrott was probably on more when he came here as he'd played a few times for Spurs in the prem and cup and he's had to go to Holland to get his career going. Sides like AZ Alkmaar absolutely don't pay 20k a week.

I reckon just Keane and Brady being released together and those saved wages would be enough to get a Devine type next summer. Obvious other is to let Mads go as assume he's around the 10k bracket.

@york white who broke the transfer said he's on mega wages. These top Prem academies think nothing of paying their kids £30k a week, I bet Devine is earning around that.

If we were willing to spend in excess of 20k per week on a loan for Cannon, we can stump up more than that for a possible future Prem player on a permanent

We won’t. But we can

They signed him very young though. It's different to say them getting Archie Gray from Leeds as one of the top rated young midfielders in the country, he'd certainly be on 40-50k at least if not more.

I think clubs work around this by giving the player a bigger signing on fee when he join otherwise how could Millwall afford someone like Tanganga or QPR getting Harvey Vale from Chelsea if these guys are on 30k + a week at London prem clubs?

I think it is good at least if he's thinking of returning back to NW so location will be a pull then (cue Wrexham coming in with 10m bid next summer!)

The only thing going in our favour is that Devine has bought a house back in the NW and that Spurs allowed an optional fee, which shows his future lies away from the club.

Unfortunately, the fee is way beyond our means with these current owners and his wage demands will be beyond our current top end.

If he carries on in this fashion, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Burnley have some interest in him.

Just be smart with it and put a healthy release clause in. Fuck it, put a guaranteed appearance clause in. Literally sell it to him as the stepping stone rather than the destination. He looks incredible, I just think we should be looking at it as a double or triple your money in a year deal.
Agree. Sign him for £4m, let him have a release clause if necessary, £20m, £15m. If he's got the belief in himself that he can make it in the Prem, then he knows he'd be worth that after a year or two of Championship football. Everyone wins.

Yeah if Burnley come straight back down as looks likely then he's exactly the type they go for these days with his age.

I think it depends what he wants aswell. Not every young player just chases the money. The best advised ones will be told by agent or parent just to find a club where you're going to play 100 or so games over three seasons and he'd certainly start that amount here if he stays fit. Then you get a big move and wages for when you hit 25 and peak of your career.

He's had his spell with top prem club and discovered how difficult it is to break through so this is ideal loan for him.

All of Pearson, DJ and Robbo clocked that a decade ago and had some great seasons here.

Was there a tear in his eye at the end of the game, as Pol pushed him towards the Preston fans chanting his name?

I think they’d go for him even if they stay up. If he keeps this form up for a full season, he absolutely won’t be playing in the Championship next season for us or anyone.

This 100%. In an age of stat driven scouting, the young lads know they can be doing it at any club in the Championship and if they're pulling up trees they will stand out.

What you don't want to do is step down and be second fiddle to players with more prem experience.

We should just sell this as a stepping stone for him

Was it not Whiteman?
Was Pol

Is an “option to buy” deal, a legal agreement between the two clubs and the player?

Or can another club just step in and offer more money to Spurs and/or the player?
