Ali McCann

Ali McCann

I don't agree with the issues around people annoyed at the captaincy, captaincy means very little in modern football.

He just isn't very good in all honesty. We will have a miles better midfield when hes out of it as long as it's not Thompson replacing him. Runs hard, sometimes tackles well but other than that he wouldn't get in anywhere else in this league.

His lack of ability on the ball is shocking considering he's a professional midfielder.

He’s not a defensive midfielder. He’s a midfielder who can break up play, further up the field. Hes lost playing where he is. We need a defender in the mold of Ben Pearson when he was at his peak.

This is a common view….

New manager and assistant needed
New manager, new assistant and new coaches. The standards are shocking. We’ve bought all these players with potential, but I don’t see any future financial benefit from them if there are going to develop, and most likely leave on a free by the end of the contract.

Just my opinion, but I don't actually think there's anything wrong with Ali McCann except that he's quite restricted in the roles he can perform.

He seems best shuttling around horizontally, staying on his feet and surgically tackling. He's not a destroyer in the same mould as Pearson, or a quarterback like Whiteman. He's more of a laser-targeted scalpel hunting down individuals trying to break the lines.

The problem is when we get overrun in midfield, or over-rely on him to perform a broader role getting the ball forwards. His passing vision and general forward play is not his forte. You could argue that given he has a limited role then he might be better replaced with someone with a wider range of attributes.

He looked a bit overburdened with the armband yesterday. Seemed to be drifting around a bit more and seemed preoccupied, but that'll get better in time.

I keep saying this.
The problem is I don’t know where McCann fits in as he can’t sit in and screen defence as he wants to go break play up but it leaves centrally us exposed. But he’s also poor on the ball.
I might get pelters but Thompson and Leroy look better than McCann and Leroy. They looked ok against some decent Everton midfielders.

Did say that he was a poor pick for captain based on his injury record. However he usually gets through 10-15 games before breaking down.

Guess he'll be back to his favourite role of playing Uno with Matt Jackson

Actually thought Thompson had a good game today although the lack of yellow cards perhaps shows how up for the game we really were
No way! Just look at the pathetic attempt (none attempt) to get back after his cross arrowed into Pickford's arms. He ambled along never got to within 15 yards of the action whilst they got the key goal.
Some midfield terrier that!

Sooner play an academy kid who'd at least run around ..... couldn't be worse on the ball either!!

I might be wrong but, I heard Matt Jackson is also 'injured'. Recovering from an operation.
